180,000 on my wife's 1999 Solara V6, 5 speed.

I'm in the process of fixing it up. I replaced the charcoal canister when the CEL came on, replaced all three O2 sensors, and did otherwise routine maintenance. She recently got 29 mpg on a long trip, with a fair amount of stuff in the trunk.

You can see it and my other projects at www.ozone1000.com.

just hit 110k on my 99' v6. no major problemo's, just flushed the tranny and might do the o2 sensors next. guess they are pretty that damn good 8) too bad toyota might not come out with something similar anytime soon for that price range, i mean.

I have 196000kms ( 121790 miles ) on my year 2000 Solara. Still runs great, a little rust was repaired on the a-pillars, but still very happy with the car. I have kept mine because I like the exterior styling and it is a very reliable vehicle.

I have 152k on a 2000 SLE, but the motor sludged up at 148k. So I guess it's good b/c I got a new timing belt, rings, and bearings... but bad because I'm still making a lot of short trips, which make sludging worse.
The only problem I've had besides that (other than problems assosciated with lowering) is a recurring CEL (PO401 EGR insuficient)

yea about that

Postby aleki2424 » Thu Mar 15, 2007 10:15 am

guys, i thought that the sludging was common in camry's but never connected it to the solaras. any solution to avoiding this. i really only do about 20-25 miles each day on average and thought it really was a peculiar problem.
apart from that, they are finely made cars with the only known common issue being p1133 -p1135 , of the O2 sensors running lean, especially if it is calif emissions . cheers solara people :drinking: !!!!

wow -- it's great to know that so many people are getting so many miles out of their solaras, though i can't say that i'm surprised!

mine is a 99 sle v6 that my parents bought brand new, and they took exceptional care of it before selling it to me (they got a new camry). it has about 82k, and has been wonderfully reliable. the only issue it has was that a sensor had to be replaced at some point -- i'm wondering if this is the same one you guys have mentioned.

i definitely plan on driving it for as long as i can -- if it ever was totaled i wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. it's a shame if toyota truly intends to discontinue it.

I have 67k and I've had a lot done to the car to her running right and im not done yet.
-I've had 2 struts replaced (under warranty)
-4 shocks (under warranty)
-my timing chain cover was leaking oil (02 Solara is the last year with timing chain, according to Toyota)
-Water Pump (I paid for it but warranty took some money off)
-rear support bushings (under warranty)
-2, yes 2 cat. converters (under warranty)
-emission coil (under warranty)
I still need to replace another strut and figure out some stupid rattling sound coming from my front right wheel. It may be control arm bushings worn out or something else. I need to get what I can fixed through TOyota my warranty runs out at 100k or by Oct. 08

just bought my 99 se last week with 123k on it. Mostly highway miles, we're 15 miles north of town. Seems to be well maintained, runs strong

1999 Solara

Postby briang0 » Fri Apr 20, 2007 6:23 pm

I have 159k on my 1999 Solara I have a CEL on right now p0441 already replaced the gas cap thinking about doing the canister. My real problem is the car has pulled to the left since I owned it in 2003 had it aligned 2 a year no change new tires no change dealer just does an alignment and say it's fine. Nobody has been able to get it to go straight. Just had inner tie rods and another alignment and it still steers to the left. Anyone have any Ideas on the steering. I think I can handle the CEL. Thanks in advance
