Sway Bar

After 12 years of driving Miata’s I now have a 2006 Solaria SLE

Love the car, but hate the handing. Want to add a sway bar. Not interested in any spring/lowering options. Just a sway bar.

Have searched, but can’t find any RSB’s for the Solaria.

Any recommended suggestions?

Welcome to SG - and welcome to Toyota!

There are hundreds of threads that talk about the RSB (Rear Stabilizer Bar) and FSTB (Front Strut Tower Brace) - both TRD products. The search as mentioned above will give you several pages on them and people's experiences with them (all positive, of course!) Here's a currently active thread:

The TRD RSB is the first recommended mod you'll want to do to your ride, hands-down. THis should have actually been put on the car in the factory IMO! Here's a few shots of mine installed:





Then for a more stabilized front end (takes out the nose-dive into tight corners) get the TRD FSTB - which takes about 15 minutes to install. Much more noticeable affects on the convertible too.



And lastly, something I'm going to check out soon, a front sway bar from Australia that's just emerged (but not tested yet by any SG member yet):



But to really make all this worth while, you'll eventually want to lower your ride as well.

where can i get those front and rear sway bars at good price and how hard is the installation?....when i got my car used from the dealer i have noticed it has black bar mounted in the engine bay, above the engine. does it have to be installed at the shop or can be done by someone who can change oil and air filter by himself no problems?

If you have general mechanical knowledge it can be done yourself. The front is very easy but the back is easier if you have a way to gat it off the ground.

I payed my mechanic $20 to put the stuff on (too lazy and he has a lift). Took him about 1/2 hr including having a drink and smoke afterwards.

The difference between the original and the TRD is huge - the effect of the bar is proportionate to the 4th power of the diameter, so (example only!) a 22mm bar is not 10% stiffer than a 20mm bar (22÷20), but 46.4% stiffer (22^4÷20^4).
Especially helpful in a convertible, since the body stiffness is much reduced by no B and C pillars.

For that you should have at least given some correct info.

1) There is no aftermarket FSB (Front Stabilizer Bar) for the Solara (trust me - I tried the Whiteline bar with a massive FAIL)

2) Only option up front is the FSTB (Front Strut Tower Brace) which is very different from a stabilizer bar.

Now let this poor thread go back into hibernation!
