you gotta basically gut everything in the back. it really sucks, i have done it multiple times (6x9 speakers, suspension, satellite receiver, suspension again). let us know if you get stuck.

did it

Postby aleki2424 » Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:37 am

i got to do the deed today. took me 1.5 hrs and was a real pain, but , it was done. i didn't even have to take out the side panels (note: not pillar panels)
and rear seat, and my new infinity's sound great.
something to note however , is that the rear deck uses three screws to mount the stock speakers , not four , as assumed, so be sure to get the nescessary mounts before pillaging the rear.
now for the front.... :)

Nice double post.

When you do the fronts grab some of these http://www.crutchfield.com/S-q61Thoi5xF3/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=762 I wish I would have done that to mine. It'll keep the water away from them when it leaks down your windows.

That being said, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TEST BEFORE YOU PUT THE DOOR PANELS BACK ON COMPLETELY!!!!!!
I had a Dodge Avenger, used these baffles and they vibrated like MAD with the BASS. a little bit of insulating foam tape (sticky one side) took care of the problem, however it added an hour to the install, b/c I had to tear the whole shlock-shlock shlock door panel apart again.
but they did keep the speakers from getting messed up, that is for sure :)
best of luck

front end speakers

Postby aleki2424 » Thu Mar 08, 2007 6:02 pm

sorry for that. guess i didnt need to prove my super slow connection.
but thanks for the info. other than baffle, does anyone know if i would need mounts for the 6.5's. am asking this since i realized a tard too late that the rears had three screw's to mount it which was probably stupid of them to do, therefore i had to get a little creative. also , do you think the dynamat stuff would make a difference.. i really dont intend that much thump up front, probably some three way infinity 963's
thank you

I just used my existing brackets and drilled new holes. You should be able to do the same with yours. Dynamat never hurts you know. If you have the time and money go for it otherwise you can just apply if needed.

i tried those baffles, they sucked and muffled my sound up. one thing that would help with midbass is creating a seal between the front of the speaker and the back of your door panel. i did this by removing the 1/2" thick cardboard ring off the front of the factory speaker (use and exacto knife and slowly pry it off) and then epoxied it around the face of my new speaker. then i got some foam insulation tape from home depot and put it all the way around that ring. now when you mount your speaker, the face of it will be sealed with the ring protrusion coming off the back of the door panel. made a HUGE difference in my sound, im surrrrious!
