Convertible Top Wrinkles

My 2006 SLE black convertible top has wrinkles on the interior (headliner).
I've seen this borought up before, but couldn't find the link. Will this be corrected by Toyota under warranty?

I'm not sure what you mean by wrinkles... are they where the top folds and how bad are they? You got any pics? If it's obviously a manufacturing defect, then I'd say it should be covered. What does your dealer say?

I have a couple of "wrinkles". Right around some of the stitching. Is that what you have?

Yes. They are on the headliner, where the front and rear folding "bars" are. Fairly noticeable. I haven't been back to the dealer yet. The dealer isn't very close to my home, so I 'm waiting for warmer weather since my boot doesn't fit well either, and I want to see if they can put it on correctly while I'm there.

I have never tried putting the tonneau cover on, it could be dangerous in FL, the state of spontaneous thunderstorms LOL.

Jeff (PXL) has mentioned that it's not easy to put on, and even if the dealer can get it on right, you will only have to take it off and do it yourself later :-D

I guess I don't really think it's worth putting it on.

As far as the "wrinkles" go, they don't bother me much. Not very noticable...perhaps yours are more noticable.

My wrinkles are not that terrible, but I heard that Toyota's replacement tops have some sort of drip rail that keeps rain from running into the interior when opening the doors. Not likely, but maybe I could get this new top if the rumor is correct, and if they replace my top under warranty. As far as the boot, I will rarely use it, but it should at least fit. Maybe it's just that this car is so good, there's not much that I can find fault with. My only real complaint is the cowl shake, but I knew about that before I bought it.

Are you looking up when you’re driving? LOL! Seriously though if it is that bad take it to the dealer or maybe take a look at other Solara convertibles to see if they have the same problem. If you can, post up a picture of the area to help you out further. 8)

Never noticed a problem on the inside. Just marks on the rear sides where it folds. Those marks seem to show permanently except when wet.

ICO the boot... I was thinking of tagging the folks downtown that make the dodger for our boat. Each dodger they do is custom so making a replacement for us might be right up their alley. If I had a soft, foldable, I might use the damn thing more than once a year. Not to hijack the thread but would this be of interest to the rest of the ragtoppers? I'd want it black (not sure of material) so it would go w/ any color.

FYI... this is what they make for the boat. It's the green thing with canvas, zippers, snaps, and flexible windows.

Okay - what exactly are we looking at in that pic? (besides the goofballs in the foreground)

I absolutely HATE the OEM boot - have used it only when going to shows and meets so far. I still can't believe it was designed by Toyota engineers, unless they let the interns design it - in which I hope they FLUNKED that semester course! :x

I was actually thinking about molding a fiberglass boot of some kind that could be painted to match the car... but I just don't think I"m feeling that ambitious anymore. :(

The green canvas over their heads. And we're thinking two different things. I'm leaning toward a soft fabric cover (about the same weight as the top) in black. Fold it up and toss it in the trunk.

Hmmm... not sure how that would look actually - as the mechanics of the top will still poke out in the fabric, won't they? It would also need a bunch of elastic tabs and hooks to hold it on steady.

But - if you do it, take some pics and show us the results!

I think that green canvas would be really SHARP on your Lunar Mist Convert too!!
