Postby 04solarafanatic » Fri Feb 23, 2007 6:31 am

Hey folks,
I just got 30k miles on my ride now and the tires really need to be replaced. Can anyone reccomend a good set of tires to get? I really don't want to get these OEM again since the treadlife suks! Im looking at the goodyear tripetread at the moment or the micheln MX4 S-8. Please let me know your thoughts. I tried to use the search but was not too successfull in this area. So I apoligize if this topic has been covered.

THanks alot!!!!

You stays with your 17" or you wanna change for bigger ?

My friend told me he was getting the General Exclaim UHP...they are cheap and are rating really really high...in fact they are rated 1st of its category !!

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=UHP

The treadwear is rated really high too !! Can be a really nice deal for you.

Yeah, Im going to stick with the 17's. I've have bad expierence when I start hooking up the car. So this time Im just going to keep it stock looking for now.

Thanks for the link, the tires are nice but they are summer tires, Im really looking for all-season so I dont have to worry about changing them all the time.

Right now I am really considering these:

Yokohama Avid V4S. Great tires, a bit noisy compared to the OEMs. But great road grip in all weather.

I will probably get Toyo PROXES 4 (not Proxy haha :P maybe US model is Toyo Proxy because everybody from US wrote Proxy)

Again UTQG are rated by the tire manufacturer...so just compare (like you did) UTQG from the same manufacturer if you wantthat result means something.

I have the tripple treds on my honda, and they are great tires, ONLY if they are installed corectly. I work for Discount Tire and I only know a handfull of people that can put them on correctly. The same is with the Goodyear Response Edge. Now the Michelin MXV4 is a great tire, the S8 is the higher end of the MXV4's and it's V speed rated, it will only last you maybe 30K also. Michelin also makes the MXV4 in a H and a regular V speed ratting that will last you longer, and perform equally as nice. You might want to consider going to a 225/55-17, you tend to have more choices in tires, and I think someone on here has put that size on their solara. If you live in a state with a Discount Tire my choice would be a Yokohama YK520, which Yokohoma only sells to us. The Goodyears and the Yokohamas in that size come with a bead protector that protects your wheels from curb rash, the MXV4 dosen't. One thing, the higher performance of the tire the less life you'll get out of them, but there is a middle ground and every tire size if different.

Still pushin' the Bridgestone Potenza's

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... es&place=1

Here is the ranking... I consider #1 pretty good.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyres ... type=UHPAS

My "lesser" model RE's are also very good tires. They are particularly QUIET and give a superior ride... and the handling is good. I HAVE to have a good all season tire... but I don't want to compromise on performance, either.

Good luck with your choice! Lots of good tires out there...

^^^ READ those reviews... makes you think hard, doesn't it?

(I think I will be going with 235/50/17's on 17x8's)

Gr8Dane,

The Yokohama YK520 says it is ideally suited for sedans and cross-over SUVs. Do you recommend these for Coupes? Do they look like performance tires or regular passenger tires? Thanks.

Also, are these tires new because I don't see them on tirerack.com?

have to agree with you. I am a Toyo girl :squarewink:

I have had both on my Lara.. The TPT's are a great year round tire... the Proxes 4's are my "fun" tires... LOL

Classy's 02 has TPT's and they have been on since Oct 05... so if you are looking for long tread life got with the TPT's

we are putting the YK520 on everything from acura TL's to lexus RX330's. Yokahoma made this tire in a wide range of sizes, I only wish they made them in mine, 235/45-18. You can see the tire on Yoko's website or our at tires.com. Yokohoma won't sell them to tirerack. Here's the link to the V speed rateing, there is an H also. Read the reveiws.

Gr8Dane,

Is there a difference ordering from discounttire and discounttiredirect? I notice discounttiredirect is a little cheaper. Is this my only way of buying them since I don't have any local stores near me? Also, the Yokohama YK520 only offers H-Speed in my tire size, 215/60-16. Do you know what the maximun high speed is for the H-speed? Thanks.
