Passenger-side vanity mirror light

Passenger-side vanity mirror light

Postby kronos98 » Wed Apr 30, 2003 7:43 pm

The light in the passenger side visor is dead. It was like that when I bought the car, and I've been meaning to get it fixed for my girlfriend. Girls...sheesh. She loves mirror.

Anyways, I tried changing the bulb and also checked the wires with a multimeter. I found it's not a dead bulb and there's no current making it to the wires.

I went to a dealer a few weeks ago for an oil-change and asked if he could take a quick look. He told me he'd have to open everything up and trace the wires to determine what's wrong.

Can someone help me? I'd like instructions on opening everything up. Maybe check out a fuse or wherever the wire originates from?

Thanks for any help.

it's probably on the same fuse as the rest of the interior lights. perhaps the socket is bad or a wire has just come loose inside?

This isn't entirely on topic, but my driver's side is the same....the light hasn't worked since I bought the car. SO I need to try and replace the bulb. What type of bulb is it, and how can I fit it in? T.I.A.

The light on my side :D (the driver's side) is working. I even removed the entire fixture with the mirror and all from my working side and put it on the non-working side.

I opened the translucent plastic cover of the light and unscrewed the whole thing and swapped two. The one from the passenger side works on the driver's side works.

Also, I used a multimeter to measure the currect flow to the wires inside the visor. There's no juice there.

Could it really be just wiring inside the visor? If so, how can I open the thing to fix it. Otherwise, how and what do I need to open to follow the wires?

I've got the same problem with one of my mirrors. I tried changing the bulb but it wasn't that. The problem with mine is that there is a very thin, fragile piece of plastic that activates the mirror by connecting to metal wire pieces inside the mirror when the mirror is opened. Since the little plastice piece broke, I have to purchase a whole new unit. :x Tried glue, and it did work but only for 3 activations and then it broke again. Open it and try connecting the to metal pieces & see if it lights up. Something tells me this is your problem cause that dang little plastic piece (which I even saved) is too weak and fragile. :-? Any hoot, at least I still got one. :)

correct me if I'm wrong, but the light will only come on if the vehicle is on, or headlight switch is on with the vehicle on. you won't have current if your keys are in your pocket.

All I have to do is flip the mirror open. My mirrors are always on, even if the lights are off and my keys are in my pocket. There's always current for my vanity mirrors. I've got a '99 SLE. Your's may be different although I doubt that's the case.
