Smell coming inside of 2006 SLE Convertible

Postby brilliantmind38 » Fri Jan 12, 2007 9:36 pm

Last week my first problem of any kind occured with my 2006 SLE Convertible (30,000 mi.) I started noticing a smell - at first I thought exhaust - but it's more like an antifreeze type of smell inside the car after warm up. It's winter so the heat is on - but it happens both in recirculate mode and when adding outside air. Dealer could not find anything at all and didn't notice the smell. But I've owned the car for a year and half and I know this just developed and shouldn't be there. Since it was close to radiator/antifreeze smell - I asked if it could be heater core - and he said not this soon with this few miles. Not sure I bought that - but it's mighty difficult, time consuming and costly to check out if a heater core is plugged. No leak inside of car. Anyone had anything similar?

Check your in cabin air filter, which is behind your glove box. It could have something nasty in it.

Naw... you aren't gonna convince me he hasn't FARTED for the first 30,000 MILES of ownership in his own car!!!

I think the CABIN AIR FILTER is a PRIME SUSPECT... (Dead mice and other little rodents can smell like all manner of familiar, albeit distasteful aromas.....)

While I can't disagree with the cabin filter, I might also seriously think about food and drink that might have been spilled.

Come to think it, check the trunk also. Might not be a bad time to get your carpeting shampooed all over.

Maybe it's like JERRY SEINFELDS car....??? !!!

Bad B.O. from a valet?

HAAAAA HA HA HA ha ha.....

Like that goofy stunt those bone-heads on "Jackass" did, where one of them put DEER MUSK or some such pheromone or something all over their shirt... and then had the guy "hook up" with some "chicks" outside a nightclub and get into their car... well, that lasted just long enough to pull out of the parking space... "...YEEEEEEEEWWWWW!!! YOU STINK!!"

Have any DEER-LOVING-MUSK-SMELLIN' friends been hitching rides with you lately?

^^^ Glad you find some humor in my therapy...

...some people HATE crisp out there... I would suspect.

(A special note of appreciation from crisp to all who at least tolerate him... despite a temporary lobotomy some days ago, and a momentary delivery of short posts, precipitated by the lobotomized mind of crisp, who fell into a temporal state of condensed thoughts... a council edict of unprecidented lobby leveraged a complex reversal procedure to be initiated shortly after the initial local-lobular-restriction, and a successful result restored "most" of crisp's cranial smorgasbord of protracted thoughts and further perpetuated the continuum of forum asphyxiation of the vernacular kind for which he has become well known... Thank You! :o )

...and you guys wondered where the DEER came from?

This same thing happend to me once with only 1000 miles on it. Was when I was driving in hot weather on the freeway in stop and go traffic. Smelled just like antifreeze. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. They did do a TSB but I can't remember which one. I'll try and find out.

If you smell anti-freeze the heater is leaking. Tell that damn dealer to fix it before the warranty is up! HP
