Hello

Hello

Postby malenky » Thu Jan 25, 2007 3:20 pm

Hi all. I've been reading this site extensively since I got my 99 Solara sle in December, and it's been immensey helpful...and addictive.

She's got 95,000 miles, and still runs smooth as silk. However, she is all stock, and so the bug has gotten me. So, here's what I've been thinking about.

1) Cp-e intake - from the posts it seems like a really good mod to do and simple as well. A little expensive but worth it if she gets a little more kick.

2) Wheels - running stock 16 alloys and would love to go to 18's. I searched but couldn't find a definitive offset to use, esp the rears. Suggestions?

3) TRD RSB - Def top of the list, cuz she rolls soooo much in corners it feels like a van. How much does ride really suffer compared to stock? I like the plushness (if not a little too bouncy tho)

4) Lowering springs (co's one day) - would love to lower, but it already grinds my muffler on the way down my steep driveway. Any suggested workarounds besides pouring cement?

5) TRD Lip kit - Where do I get it? Can't find anywhere.

Too many more to consider for now.

I'm adventurous mechanically (worked a lot on old 87 supra) but still a noob so bear with me.

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

I believe that +37-38 (for 7.5-8.0) works well on the Gen1s... if you want the wheels sitting out more go for +42 (ish)... but you might get rubbing issues.
Probably could answer your question better if we knew what width of wheel/tire you would like to run...

The ride quality (roughness) should not suffer that much from the addition of a RSB (but that maybe subjective depending on how sensitive you are to ride quality)... definitely worth the potential trade off IMO

Angle your entry and exit from your driveway... no cement needed... and definitely go with the COs... cheaper in the long run to do it right the first time...

Search... because there are several group buy threads around... (for the 1.5 kit, but it will still fit your Gen1... it is almost impossible to find an actual Gen1 kit)...

thanks for the advice. the driveway is a b*&^$ anyway i go. Oh well.

thinking of going 225-40-18 and 18/8 wheels. Would I need spacers to prevent rubbing? If so, which ones.

NA...was about to attempt turboing it with my friend, but then this car came and I fell in love. Not nearly as spirited as the supra (even without turbo) but she's not modded yet ;).

^^ You're saving yourself alot of "potential" headache with the 7MG conversion to turbo... especially on an "earlier" '87. As to "spirited", yeah, the straight six is an exceptional motor... WAY over engineered and good for build-up. On the "flip-side" Supra's get "maintenance" expensive in their "greying" years...

Welcome to SG! Please feel free to post up some pics. It's always good to see "before" pics too! If you have any pics on the Supra, "Garage Talk" is home for other rides.

Now that you've started posting, it will be extremely addictive.

The new Crisp is suprising the heck out of me too. I guess his therapist found the right voltage level for his shock treatments. LOL
