Well I just got home after driving it off the showroom floor! I have to say I'm floored, great dealer experience, awesome car! As nice as I thought this car looked when it was sitting outside, covered in snow and salt, after seeing it all detailed, with a fresh wax job, and wet shine tires... damn I made a good choice! But I'm left with a question: The dealer pointed out that it's got a full tank of premium gas, and not to be worried if it acts differently when I fill it up with regular gas... I don't do much driving (milage wise) is it worth it to feed her premium? She is mighty zippy right now, deffinetly a sports car compared to my 1999 sable.

Anyone thinking of buying another car (used or new) in Wisconsin... the guys at northshore infiniti were a pleasure to deal with. Granted they have some high stickers, so haggling is a must, but they aren't un-reasonable, and the salesman I worked with (Chris) was extremely honest and helpful.

you'll be fine driving it on 87 or 89 octane. i dont notice a big difference or much difference in gas mileage or top end speed.

I only run premium in anything.... I've found you can actually calculate a "negligible" cost increase if you work in the "very modest" mileage improvement... and the performance improvement of 93 over 87 is worth the extra $2 or so a tankful. Let's say you run it down to empty, then top off at each filling... I'm figuring around $0.20 per 6 octane points... a dime for the first 2 points, another dime for FOUR MORE, at a cost of $3.00 or so a FULL tank. At a tank a week, that's only $150 per year... to run PREMIUM GRADE FUEL. Less risk of "vapor lock", no concerns with "engine knock" or "gurgling" at lower rpm... better performance... and probably pulling a fraction of a mile or so per gallon better mileage. (I've checked this theory out...) Probably costing you $50-$100 bucks a year in the end...

Wanna run CHEAP (*ahem* --> CRAP) gas? Buy a FORD.

As of now I am planning on making the drive down, but I'm afraid this solara will be as stock as they come at that point. If the weather starts getting better I might put some work into getting some new wheels/tires for it. Stupid question, but my search attempts have been futile so far: are any mods required to run 18" rims? I was thinking of 18s with a 40 sidewall, possibly getting it dropped, but that's iffy, this will be a year round car, and I don't want to be getting stuck in the snow all the time.
