07 SLE Convertible Wheel Alignment Problem

Postby 07VertaBibble » Thu Nov 09, 2006 12:57 pm

Brand new 2007 SLE Convertible and from day 1 the steering wheel is off center by about 1/4 inch. The alignment is actually fine, just the steering wheel is off center. This is making me CRAZY, the dealer had the car on the alignment rack twice and it is the same problem. I go back next week to have a "master technician" look at it. Has anyone had a similar experience and what were the results. What is my recourse if they can not correct this problem.

Thanks

I personally have never heard of this problem... there was a left drift problem with the 04s, but since you say yours is not affecting your actual steering I dont think its the same (plus Toyota said they fixed it...)

If the dealer cannot fix the problem then you have to decide how much it bothers you... Im not sure they would take it back since you say it is not affecting the functionality of the car (just bugs you looking at the steering wheel off center)... but you could always try to raise hell and get it fixed or replaced...

Good luck, most dealers are shady...

Good luck getting it fixed. Toyota dealers are great at taking your money at the time of sale but suck at providing service.

Your problem is nothing compared to what I have dealt with. The alignment on my car from the factory caused my stock tires to be worn out on the outside at 13k miles. Toyota did an alignment when I had the left pull TSB done and I bought new tires 3 months later. The two front tires were shot after 7k miles because of a bad alignment (far too much toe-in). Finally ended up paying an independent shop to do the alignment and while I have driven less than 200 miles since, it seems to have taken care of a few of the issues I've had, though I cannot say if the extreme tire wear problem is taken care of.

Anyway, good luck. You may end up having to pay an independent shop to fix it.
Moved on to better things...

I had that problem on my previous ride and found out that centering the steering wheel is not always done during the alignment of the wheels. Once pointed out to the technician, it was easily fixed.

I know people with other makes of cars that have had this. It's a fit problem, and should be able to be fixed by removing and re-installing the steering wheel.

Problem Corrected

Postby 07VertaBibble » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:30 am

They had the "Master Technician" work on the car today and after well over 2 hours of adjustments and test rides and readjustments everything seems alright now. Thanks for all the advice given on this board.
