thanks man, haha, and you're right, I AM going nuts... that thing been just sitting in my car just staring at me... but yeah, I figure that is how you do it, the only problem is space, it feels pretty cramp like I won't be able to get a phillips head screwdriver in there, you only had like 1-2 inches of clearance right? but anyways... i'll keep on trying, thanks QuickSEV6

Yes, it is very cramped. Maybe somebody with small hands would have had an easier time.
It's ok to angle the phillips head to punch out the pin. You just have to knock it out far enough to grab it with some needlenose pliers. And the rest is cake.
