Just out of curiosity why 3?
These really don't go bad, except maybe for the bearing....right?

I got three (3) 89203's and eight (8) 89007's from eBay auctions, so I made three sets. I'll keep one set and can share the others to SG members. I also have a few 6-groove plastic pulleys (Dayco P/N 89009) and some (MotorCraft) metal 6-groove pulleys that came from a Ford 6.0L engine.

Not only the bearing on the pulley but also the bushing, spring and arm of the tensioner can go bad anytime.

I'm using the Dayco Poly-Cog 5060895, a longer belt but it's only for the Sienna. The idler plate assembly is much taller that the Solara kit.

I did not have the time to install the replacement tensioner last weekend. I pretty sure it’s a direct fit.

I installed the replacement Dayco automatic idler tensioner this afternoon.
As expected, the tensioner and pulleys are exactly the same as the (OEM) TRD supplied parts with our S/C. The replacement part is functioning like the OME so far, no rattle nor squeal. Will see after a week of driving and will post an update/feedback.

I took some pictures and video of the tensioner in action.

Test fitting the idler tensioner and installing the Poly-Cog belt.



A wood stand to safely keep the 3/8 socket driver from moving and hold the tensioner while removing the 6-groove pulleys then loosening the belt. The spacer is glued to the alternator pivot frame to keep it from falling during the idler plate assembly installation.


Installation is complete.



The video of the Dayco automatic idler tensioner is action. To simulate an extra load on the belt, I turned on the A/C, the headlights and fog lights (alternator load).

I had the dayco part number for the grooved pulleys, but not the smooth pulleys.

During the week I picked up 2 smooth pulleys, 1 grooved pulley (one is already new), the tensioner, and a new poly-cog belt because my s/c belt setup was making loud loud rattling/bearing noises.

I got everything locally in the GTA (Toronto, Canada) for $225cnd w/ taxes- amazon.com doesn't ship across the border for these.

In the end though, after checking all the bearings of my current pulleys, I found that it was one of the smooth pulleys that had a bad bearing, and the one on the current tensioner just looked worn, so I only replaced the two smooth pulleys along with the belt and will return everything else.

it would have been more effort to find the part numbers (or I would have had to take everything apart and then go to the dayco carrier with my smooth pulleys to find another one).

knowing that there are extra parts on hand locally (or at least easy to get) gives a peace of mind as well for in-case-something-goes-wrong

You're welcome. How are the Dayco (89007) smooth pulleys working for you? It's nice that you can get them locally.
It's has been a week since I installed the new Dayco idler tensioner, smooth and 6-groove pulleys. They are just fine and doing their function.
If the sun comes up today, I'll remove the idler plate assembly and do some visual inspection.

Sometimes most auto supply will ask for your vehicle Year/Make/Model before they sell you a part.

Remember, you have to replace the smooth pulley (that came with the 89203) with Dayco P/N 89007.

^ the pulleys are working great- no more noise, just the usual bit of noise from the blower at idle and nothing more once the throttle is on.

I was pretty nervous when I first installed the blower- you never know what you get when you get a used unit even though it was said to have been rebuilt (now I believe it).

the only thing that I would say is that it's a waste for them to paint the pulleys black in the first place since after a day of use, the belt has already worn away some of the paint and soon enough there will be none left anyway =P


Saved me a bunch of headaches as I had planned on tearing the blower apart to replace some parts. I even have new rotor bearings and a coupler now sitting around. But oh well, I'll use those sooner or later...
