Gen 2 Wheels and spacers

Postby briantek » Thu Oct 19, 2006 5:35 pm

I finally received my Gen 2 wheels and today went to tires plus to see how much it would cost to mount some tires and get some spacers put on. The tires of course were no problem but they were iffy about putting spacers on my car. I told them I know a bunch of people who have done it and have no problems after installing them. They kept saying that the bolts were not going to be long enough to put any spacer on. But they would do it as long as I sign a form stating they are not liable if anything were to happen. So what gives? Are spacers really a bad idea? Is there enough length on that bolt to put the lug nuts on tight? Also I know 15mm is recommended and H&R is the best brand to get. They cost around 80-100 bucks online. But tires plus is only charging 10 dollars per read spacer? Do they maybe have the wrong idea about what I need? Sorry for the long post, any help is appreciated guys.

the 10 dollar spacers won't get you enough thread with the bolts. Spend the extra money and get the H&R. A few members here have had their rear wheels fall off with the cheap $10 spacers.

I recently did this and the 15mm H&R spacers come with longer studs. You need to remove the old studs from the wheel hub and put the new longer ones on. There's a tutorial somewhere around here on how to do this.
This is the space where I should write something witty or clever, hoping to show some personality.

The Part #: HR30656014 (studs included)for the ones you need. Also, I think the shop you took it to misunderstood you.

The studs are replaced to accommodate the larger spacers leaving enough thread just as OEM (when spacer is on).

Search for "spacer", there is a thread not too long ago with a write up on how it works and installation.

Good Luck

Anyone know if any of these sites are reliable?

optionsauto.com
4myride.com
gripmotoring.com

I can get the H&R Spacers from any of those sites. Unless someone has a better recommended site?
