Dealing with smog checks...?

Dealing with smog checks...?

Found some smog check stuff off the DMV for california.

http://www.dmv.org/ca-california/smog-check.php

It states:

"Cars Six Years Old and Newer

If your vehicle is six years old or newer, you will be charged an annual smog abatement fee when you register your vehicle rather than being required to provide smog certification.

However, the six-year-or-newer rule doesn't apply to nonresident and custom-built cars made since 1976. Those vehicles will still require smog certification. If you have a custom or specially constructed car, however, you might need a different type of smog certification."

My question: So that means once our my is older than six years then we'd have to do annual smog checks?

It also does say , "Rather than provide smog certification".

My car is a lil bit over three years old now and I didn't have to take it in for smog check at year two, or beginning of year 3.

If you know the shop, you'll pass with headers (as long as they aren't doing a visual). At least, I almost did with the JPP headers and y-pipe. The reason I failed was because my CAT was gutted. I was shocked when the guy told me the only reason I failed was because of the CAT.
