blown engine- maybe??

blown engine- maybe??

Long story short- Went and washed my car today, since it hasn't been washed for a few months. I drove it through the driers at work and took it for a ride to blow off the rest of the water.

I pull out onto the highway and hit the gas. Well, as some of us know, there is a lag. Well, I wondered what would happen if I gunned it during the lag to see if I could kick it out of it. Well, that was the wrong thing to do. The car shot forward, the check engine light came on and there was a "boom" under the hood. Next thing I know, the car was rolling to a stop on the freeway. I called my insurance company roadside assistance and they sent a truck. The tow driver popped the hood and was looking at things, because he was curious what happened. He looked in the oil cap and saw shards of metal on the oil cap and on the dipstick tube. He thinks I blew the engine.

Now, everyone will be quick to say that the car had no oil in it, but it had an oil change at 15,500 miles about 2 months ago and now it has 15,800 miles.

Car was towed to Toyota- We'll see what happens tomorrow when they check it out.

Sounds like you're getting a new engine - if not a new Solara! :D

So exactly - what do you mean you "gunned it during the lag"?

Any time I've felt the hesitation/lag I've had it floored - with no response. :-?

Basically, it was lagging and I gassed it to the floor- then everything else happened. They just called me and can't seem to figure out what happened.

Sucks, but that had to fell pretty good to pop an engine (is it just me that thinks that would be fun?). The powertrain warranty is 60k, so no worries. Just wait until they review the black box and see you gunned it...just kidding.

The service advisor told me that they are still unsure of what happened inside the engine to cause it to pop. It has the proper amount of oil in it and everything was done properly during the last oil change.

I told him that the car was lagging and I hit the gas to see if I could pull it out of the lag, so I told him exactly what I did- he said it will be covered by warranty, so not to worry.

I guess its getting a new engine. They hope to have it done by Thursday and then it can't be driven over 55mph's or set on cruise for 1,000 miles. Fun fun fun.
