1/2" Wheel Spacer Test

Well - I'm just testing this out for a bit... got some 1/2" spacers for the rear with the OEM wheels still... looks like it's going to be awhile before I can get rims now (long story - different thread!)

Not a huge difference at all, but the wheels don't look quite as sunken in as before...

Here's before/after:

I might try some 5/16" for the front next after I see how it rides. Just took a quick spin around the block and checked the lugs with torque wrench again.

Next step will most likely be lowering it - keeping the OEM rims for awhile until I decide what I'm going to do next.

^^^that's not bad....I can tell the difference.....I was thinking about doing the same thing....... using adaptor instead.......like this one.

15mm spacers do make a difference, it does look better... H&R are the best spacers IMO.

Well - like I said - just a test for now...

H&R are probably the best - since they give you bolts as well, but $169 a pair?!!

I got at least 5 full turns on these - but I've read that recommended is 7 min. I do have them torqued at 80lb and will keep a close eye on them. No hard cornering for awhile. At least they're not on the drive/steering wheels - and I'm not doing any drifting any time soon!

I'll see how the 5/16" spacers work on the front. Should get at least 8-10 turns on stock bolts. Those will be here by the weekend.

Took a quick test drive up PCH - handles fine - rides smooth...

So far so good!

Okay - so why would someone go with a "Wheel Adapter" vs a spacer?

I could see if you're changing bolt patterns/spacing sizes...

Do they even make those? (going from 5x114.3 to 5x120)

If so - I would LOVE to score some 18" BMW rims!!

It would seem that an adaptor could be safer (properly made)

While adding more unsprung weight than a spacer, you ensure you have full thread engagement.
Any spacer reduces your thread engagement by that much.

I DO like the look with the tire closer to the wheelwell. Fills them out better.

I got a reply back from the H&R distributor - they don't MAKE a 5x114.3 to 5x120 adapter!

Crap - because I really like the look of Bimmer wheels - think they'd be great on the Solara!

That looks cool, but even with adapters, those wheels would stick out since the offset is low.... but your Chopping skill makes it look cool.

Here is something that looks similar, no spacers needed, spare set of g35 18x8 wheels....
