My post is in regards to this post...

It is my opinion that the Solara, for its power its overweight. Mostly in the front end (yes and I know it is a fwd) but comparing it to a g35 is like comparing apples and pears. 298 hp @ 6,400 rpm 3,550 lbs rwd vs 225 hp @ 5600 rpm 3,230 lbs. The power to weight ratio 8.39 (g35) vs 6.97 (solara)i'll take the g35 anytime, if I had the $$. This is why I choose my lady solara, because bang for buck toyota, is always the best.

A more real life scenario will be comparing it to the accord and or pontiac g6:

Accord 225 hp @ 5600 rpm 3,364lbs fwd p/t/w 6.69
Pontiac G6 240 hp @ 6000 3,525 fwd p/t/w 6.81
With this 2 last examples you do the math; solara is way better and best priced.

The bottom line is: It is MY OPINION that the solara is heavy, and this is not the topic of my post. We can post an additional topic about this and go from there. My post is about a friends car that installed a nitrous system which I find interesting and want to know your comments about it. Please keep to the topic or start a new one about weight in our cars, maybe something good goes from there (tips for weight reduction, etc)


I love speed, but I'm more into daily driving comfort, music, video, handling etc. Although, sometimes I have the cravings to go over 100.

I am not debating the question of weight because even with the examples used the car is still lighter then those examples given. My question is as to the classification of the car. I have always felt that the car falls into the class of a mid-sized luxury coupe which J.D. Power and associates implies in the article posted on the 2006 model (see here) which is why I would compare it to the Infiniti G35. I was just curious what everyone else thought.

I would agree that the Solara has class that boosts even this front weel drive, heavy car into a category similar to that if the Infinity. It may not be as sporty, but it's easilly as classy.

I do not know what a SE or SLE Solara with cloth interior looks like, but the leather SE Sport interior is slick!

From my experience, it's the BMW's, Merc's and G35 drivers that are always checking out my ride. A G35 wanted to race today, but I decided to not feed myself a loss.

I'd like to see power to weight normalized by average sale price. So $/W/Kg. I think the new Corvette would top everything for that statistic.
