Hello and Help

Hello and Help

Postby RionsRun » Mon Aug 28, 2006 8:15 am

I am a female in California looking at a late model Solara SLE coupe. I test drove a 2004 with a suspension problem that pulled to the left. Was that fixed on the 2005 and 6 models?

I then became aware of a bad transmission lag and unexpected acceleration on the 2005 and perhaps later models per the included links.

Is the Transmission Shift Enhancement a workable solution, does it completely do away with the problem or is it a partial remedy?

I do not know that much about cars and would appreciate any help. I think this is a great looking car, right size, have seen worse gas mileage elsewhere but need to know the Toyota reliability is still there.

Thanks,

-Rion

Toyota has come out with a fix for the 1 to 2 second delay on the downshift of their 5 speed transmission!!!!
I took my 2005 Solara to the dealer and got the "Transmission Shift Enhancement" installed and now the car shift perfectly.

Take your Lexus ES's, Tundras or Solaras and request the re-programming of the car's computer.
IT WORKS! I got installed yesterday, (8/2/06) and works perfectly.

Welcome SG.com !!

TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin

- Left pull on '04 and some '05 models is fixed with an available TSB.
- Transmission lag in the tranny is fixed on '04 and '05 models with an available TSB.

- Transmission lag supposed to be fix for '06 Solara V6...seems that it isn't right at 100% and no TSB available.

I own a '06 Solara SE V6 and I use a lot the "sportshift". I manage the gear the car has to be so no lag is possible. This car is one of the greatest bang for the bucks ever !! Lexus as a Toyota price...it's really is !!

If you can I would suggest you to get a '05 SLE V6 and get all the TSB done on it. You'll pay less and still have a recent car and have no problem as you described...or if you have a real nice deal on the '06 I wouldn't be too worry about the lag...

My own opinion :)

More complexed than that.

In 04/ 05 many a posts were made on the topic.

In the FAQ stickies forum they were all compiled the TSB lists are in this section of solara guy too.

If you go with the 04 you test drove print off the fix for the left drift and get them to fix it before you buy it, and for the sake of trying tell them you think they should put a new set of tires on the car as well because you dont want a set that have been drifting left for 2/3 years.

Thank you all very much. Armed with your expert advice I shall give this car a second chance. The Solara is too good and deserves another look.
