Not many Solaras made.

Not many Solaras made.

Just curious how many Solaras they make per year. Not many. I hear that about 2 % are 5-spd manual. That would be 1000 or less. Pretty rare. Look at the increase in Avalon's produced from '04-05 unless thats an error. Wonder what the '06 numbers will be..These are the vehicles produced in Kentucky.

Production Volume: 2005 2004
Camry 356,516 388,107
Avalon 108,636 33,011
Solara 43,993 49,174
Total Vehicles 509,145 470,292
4 Cyl. Engines 316,129 340,753
V6 Engines 128,103 164,767
Total Engines 444,232 505,520

Wow- I didnt know the numbers were that low. I did know they were lower for the Solara though. In Wisconsin, I hardly every see a Gen 2 Solara rolling around, and if I do, its few and far between. I drove around for 2 weeks not seeing one at all. Toyota would sell a lot more of them if they actually marketed them- put em on a TV commercial- let people know what they are and what they have- then sales would go up. I'm sure that is what led to the demise of the Celica also- there was no advertising for it in its last years.

I'm one of the lucky ones that got a five speed manual on a six cylinder (gen 1).

You know, if they put a Solara in a movie, I'm sure that would boost sales.
There are people I work with that have no idea what kind of car I drive. After I give them a ride, they are all impressed and want one for themselves. I think Toyota could have had a gold mine with the Solara, but the marketing dept just dropped the ball.

but i do agree toyota could stand to market the solara better. now that i think of it im not sure ive ever seen a toyota comercial for the solara and ONLY the solara. not even in magazines. am i crazy?

I have seen a Toyota commercial about the Gen 2 Solara a while ago... more like two years ago.

The Solara, especially the Gen 2, is not really unknown in my area. In recent months, I have quite a few of them driving around in the street.

Yeah, as I have mentioned before...there are a lot of Solaras here in the Orlando area. Gen 1, 1.5 and 2...not seeing a lot of 2.5s, but I'll give it time.

I think Toyota would have a winner on their hands if the Solara gen 2.5 SE Sport had a 6spd manual tranny and the latest Avalon engine.

This topic of who drives it and where has been beaten to death. If you don't see many, you probably live in a less populated area, because I guarantee you, they're everywhere. almost 100k cars in 2 years is NOT low production. I have involuntary Solara parties with more than one other one driving next to me at a time. The numbers for Gen 2 with 5spd are for the 4 cylinder only, the 5spd was never mated with the 3MZ to my knowledge.

THIS is a question that has had me wondering for a long time. I have my car pretty much for sale right now (I'm fixing part of the supra so I'm driving the Solara again because it hasn't sold yet) and it kills me that to the right person the production rarity of it alone makes it worth quite a bit, but no one is looking for it. I have a 99 black/black leather V6 5spd, I've never seen another one, I've seen an '00 and an '02 with the same otherwise, but NEVER another 99 like that. And I've spent some time looking at Solaras, the above numbers include randomly autotradering the whole country and checking ebay and cardomain. I would venture to guess on a realistic scale that a black/black leather 5spd v6, in any year for that given year (not all years total), has production numbers lower than an Enzo Ferrari. If not lower it would be VERY close, but I still think the Solara is lower. Even with all the cars that were built, when I take into consideration that on autotrader and ebay and here and cardomain that my information is based on thousands upon thousands of Solaras, and only finding three including mine? So multiply that 3 by however many times the number (thousands) of Solaras I've seen can multiply into total production, and I still think even across all years 99-03 you have on your hands a number somewhere maybe in only triple digits. Too bad that's not marketable in a sale, because it's not something too many people specificly look for. You have to find the right person, but hey I was the right person for the girl selling it when she did, I paid 900 over blue bok and flew 750 miles to get it, if you want a car, you want a car.

it's all a matter of perspective,

40,000 solaras a year may seem little, and almost half a million camrys a year might seem mindboggling huge, but going by your numbers alone, it roughly comes out to:
1 in 8 camry's is a coupe, which is not a bad ratio.

and that's way more than the coupe versions of other cars.

like that wise guy said, the universe is relative.

...dammn, half a million camry's a year.

I was lucky enough to stumble across mine as i was trying to decide to fly to FL to look at one from autotrader. Never would have thought my '99 red on black leather V6 5-speed would be sitting at a dealer 5 miles from my house. Ended turning the tables on the saleman, and convinced him no one else but me would buy it because of the manual tranny!
