I wouldn't hesitate on the CP-e because of that comment. I really don't have the hesitation much at all. What I think I really feel, is that the car just has more power at various throttle positions. It's like the rubber band is being stretched just a little more with the CP-e. And so there's a little more snap as you pull out from a stop or slow roll.

The hestitation isn't worse. The car just has more power. I don't think that's a bad thing.

I feel less of this lag with CP-e than stock (I never made anything on the stock setup). I use a lot the sport shift so I avoid any type of lag by using it a lot. Ask others about it...the CP-e MAFci system itself doesn't create lag...it is the 2006 setup that may be laggy.

I would urge all '06 owners who have had ANY kind of low-speed hesitation or lag issues to call and report it so they'll put out a TSB and fix it! This car is so great in every other way - this really shouldn't even be an issue! ;)

^^ Up there...

They will ask you what's happening specifically - just tell them about the hesitation/lag you're experiencing between 5 and 30 mph - and that you're well aware of the TBW (Throttle By Wire) response times - which aren't affected at any time other than the low-roll accel.

Thanks! ;)

PXL, fyi ,they don't look at your ECU to do a flash unless something goes horribly wrong and they have to replace it. I had the TSB a couple months after my cp-e install. I reverted to stock for the occasion but not since. I can see where you're coming from though.

I mean, in case something BAD happens and I have to sue Toyota's butts for not fixing a known issue! (God - I ain't puttin' that out there... just sayin' "if" now!) :o

Once its resolved, then I have no problem upgrading. ;)

Upshifting??

Postby sparkler » Fri Aug 25, 2006 10:10 am

PXLpainter wrote:Lets put it this way...

I had left it in 3rd at a stop sign yesterday (usually "downshift" to 2nd in normal driving but was preoccupied by passenger in the car) - waited for a few cars to go by and then pulled out into the flow of traffic with what I am usually accustomed to, timing the acceleration to quickly get me up to the speed of the oncoming traffic. I romped on the accel and pulled out, only to have the the fuking 2-second LAG bog down and I see cars quickly approaching my rear-view mirror! :o It seriously feels like a flooded Holly 4-barrel carb when it does that!!

I quickly pulled it down into 1 and it took off in a jolt where I could then up-shift as normal to avoid being slammed in the rear.

This isn't only irritating as all hell, but incredibly fuking dangerous! If I ever get rear-ended because of it, Toyota is going to have a BIGGASS law suit on its hands!!

I just wish they'd take this problem seriously and FIX IT!!!

So yeah - I'm fuking PISSED about it! :evil:

OK - so I'm a newbie... but so far all I've been able to do is downshift. Am I doing something wrong? (I did drive a 5 speed Maxima for 16 years, so it's possible I'm not thinking clearly about my vert's '06 auto...) My car currently has about 2500 miles on it...gen mgrs wife drove it for the first 1900...

And yes, I'm also experiencing a lag...and will call the # you have recommended - thanks for laying the groundwork for a TSB :wink:

How can you be able to just downshift ??

downshift = pull
upshift = push

it is the opposite to the natural move...maybe it is what confused you !?

Just to let you gen2 and 2.5 owners know, that by actually calling the Toyota Customer Experience Center and reporting your hesistation issues, it will get your cars problem more notice than just complaining to a service advisor at a dealership. And maybe a proper TSB could come out of all your calls. They will give you a specific case# with your report and Toyota Motor Sales will be taking care of you from that point on, not the dealership.

AHA!!! What a "Duh" moment :oops: Thanks 007---
When we test drove, the salesman showed us the 'downshift' part, and said to just push back over to 'D'. I'm still making my way thru the manual - slow going, I'm afraid...
I appreciate your explanation!

I'm happy to have help you...I always use the tiptronic or sportshift...I put it into D when I'm cruising on the highway.
