Can I get away with a smaller pulley?

Can I get away with a smaller pulley?

Postby Ragtop George » Wed Mar 26, 2003 12:35 pm

I am going to be installing my new exhaust (Apexi WS + Y pipe & high flow cat) soon. Since the airflow capacity of the engine will increase, my actual boost levels should go down. Can I put on a smaller pulley to increase the boost again and get even more power? I currently have a 2.75" pulley, and the engine runs fine.

Thanks

George

George you are on the borderline of a lot of building up to handle the extra boost. On your auto you might need a high performance torque converter (level10) to put the added power to the wheels. With any boost above 6.5PSI your injectors can't keep up so you'll need upgraded injectors (from the 2jz IS300 of NA supra or SC300). You'll also want to use a Safc II because it has knocking sensors and it'll let you dynotune to richen up the fuel mixture.

Even if you disregaurd this info you'll need a belt with more teeth on it because the smaller the pulley the more slipping you'll get. You can talk to Rod(bigflyjet) about this. He got a serpentine belt(i believe) for his 2.6" pulley. The only reason he is running 7psi safely is because hes located in denver and the air isn't as dense up there. For MD i wouldn't reccomend over 6psi.

Good luck

Uhh, there's a little more to it than that and using an S-AFC with those injectors wont work. You will need a standalone unit for it. Like I said before, 2JZ injectors are not plug and play equipment.

I dont know what else you'd NEED, but there are a few other things that some guys have reccomended. Ericsol would probally be the best to talk to about it but he has a Split Second fuel and timing controller to further control the timing and fuel
