How is the Alarm supposed to work?

Postby Diane64 » Wed Aug 16, 2006 5:02 pm

On other cars that I have owned when you lock the car the alarm is enabled. I tested the alarm with my top and windows down and reached in and nothing happened. Does this alarm work differently.

By the way, I have had the car since end of November and live in the Philly area. I love driving this car, especially in the summer with the top down. :o

There's no motion sensor, so it won't go off. You'd have to manually unlock the door and open it.

By the way, WELCOME :D

There's an intro section where you can post a quick hello to everyone.

Welcome to Solaraguy Diane!

And like Jerry said, the alarm will go off when you open the doors.

The factory alarm, as everyone has stated above, is only activated upon forced entry (opening the door). You can, however, upgrade it to include a proximity sensor if you want to protect your convertible (glass breakage and forced entry sensors alone are practically worthless on convertibles with their tops down).

You need the "Web of laser beams" mod.
as it is, I can reach in your open ragtop and grab stuff and all is well unless I unlock the door from the inside.

But without a key they won't be taking your car anyway. It's sufficient for most situations.

Welcome to SG! The alarms for Toyota are strictly for opened doors, but there ARE some stock ones that detect motion (e.g. for the car rocking, but I think they're for Benzes and Bimmers), so your best bet is to install an aftermarket or a manufacturer upgrade.

By the way, post some pics of the car and introduce yourself in the "Introductions" section.
