Help needed to ID these headlights

Postby HID04V6 » Mon Aug 14, 2006 7:11 am

Those would be 07 headlights. I'm not sure how much work it will take to make them fit though- since they are HID and have a levelizing system that requires an additional switch.

Hmmmm... That gives me an idea... let me know how those work out for ya. There might just be a way to mod the projectors from an '06 into the DRL/Hi Beams of the '07 that would make dual projectors. ;)

Thanks. Knowing what they're for will help me sell them.

The HID part is easy to hook up, the ballast just takes a 12V input (red to +, black to -). I haven't figured out the leveler pinouts, they have 3-wires. They look kind of like they can be manually adjusted since the end has a hex-shaped head with a slot.

I had planned to use them for a project, but they're too nice to butcher up. Plus the projectors are a bit large for my project. I figure surely I can sell them for enough to get smaller projectors, especially since they are complete with all bulbs except 1 high-beam bulb.

You could probably make the high beam a projector, but there is definitely less space in the high-beam side. Projector lenses are small, but the body is probably a good 4" from flange to flange. That's the case with the PJ's in these assemblies anyway.

um... just because noone has done it doesn't mean it's impossible...

BTW... the 07's aren't auto-leveling... they're manual leveling from a control inside the car... (if I had interpreted correctly)

Cost of shipping. The grease pencil writing (barely visible in the 4th pic) explains why.

Thought you guys could use this schematic on how to use the leveler. I know it sucks, best I can do with MSPaint.

The 4.7kohm resistor is a variable one, meaning it's a 3-legged trimpot (like a volume control). One outer leg goes to -, the other goes to +, and the center leg connects to the leveler input. It doesn't have to be 4.7k exactly, I tried a 5k, 10k, even 250k one and they all seemed to work. I put 4.7k in the schematic simply because that's what the position-sensing variable resistor inside is. The datasheet for the chip used in the leveler (TLE4206) shows the height adjustment resistor being the same value as the position sensing resistor. The datasheet actually lists no minimum or maximum resistance, just that 6k is typical.

The leveler does have a clutch and can be mechanically adjusted with a socket or flathead screwdriver.

Pics of the inside of the leveler:

I hope that helps someone.
