Hey all,

I am trying to make a decision on some new tires. I think I have basically worn the Turanzas down to the ground, with 30,500 miles as of now. To be honest I don't know much about them, but after some research it looks like these two brands are highly recommended for the SLE Coupe. I would be more interested in something that has a smooth, comfortable ride as opposed to more handling, since I am somewhat aggressive but not overly aggressive as a driver! So I guess the Kumhos, because they are touring? Please advise! It's tough being a girl buying tires. Thanx

I have kumho ectas on my car right now and I'm very happy with it. Lotta people think that kumhos are not that good because of the lower price compared to the other tires, but at the same time i know a lot of people who likes them. One thing is that whenever I make a tight right turn with a descent speed in residential areas it makes slight slipping noices(??). Nothing that would bother too much. Other than that I would recommend the Kumhos from my experience. Hope this helps. :D

I recommend yokohama. I have the AVID H4S tires on my car right now and I am very happy with them. They provide a very comfortable ride with low noise, and they also give you handling, they get very good grip under all weather conditions.

You can check them out right here, they get very good rating all across the board.

I don't know about Kuhmo but Yokohama's have a very good warranty also.

I have 18" Yokohama Avid H4's and was so happy with them I bought a set for my parents for BOTH of their Camry and my mother in law's Avalon. Before we sold my wife's Civic I knew when her tires were worn out we would be replacing them with Yokohama Avids as well. I'm even planning on getting a set of V4's for my 16" winter wheels. The only reason I would ever stop buying this tire is if they stopped making them. I'm crazy about them. Jon. p.s. what I've always done is printed the prices off tirerack, taken them to my local Merchants Tire and Auto (aka Tire Kingdom/NTB depending on the stores location) had them match prices and bought the road hazard/lifetime rotation and balance and mounting for maybe $20 per tire.

Proxes 4 are very good tires as well.

Kuhmo Solus' I know nothing more than what tirerack says about them, and have never driven on them, although the Ecstas are a very good tire.

Yokohama Avid V4s' = on my Supra, and the H4s' = on my Solara. they have the same tread pattern, just a bit different composition with rubber for weight and speed ratings. So my opinion is a bit bias on this one, but they are GREAT tires. As I continue to ride on them I start to think I may eventually switch to something else, then I just realize I'm being spoiled and have gotten so used to them, and other tires usually just reallly suck. These tires give a nice grip on the ground, even with a stock suspension boat of a Solara on these tires you'll pull around corners hard, nevermind the Supra. If winter driving is not an issue I recommend these.

I feel there are probably smoe better tires out there, but none worth spending the extra money on if you're not going to use them for what they can do. I'd look at the Toyos too though honestly if you care to, they're great tires.

Go Yokohama - no question about it. I have had Yokohama's on (2) of my Audi's and and on (2) of my Porsche's and I loved them no matter which model of tire I purchased.

Do you have 16" or 17" rims? I thought the 2004 SE (v6) had the same size rims as the SLE - but I am not sure. Just make sure you buy the right size.

Tire Rack is the place to buy them - they will size you up perfectly based on year, make and model of Solara you have.

Here is the link for the AVID V4S

Thanks,

Yokohama is your better choice, simply because it has everything -- Performance and a smooth ride. Kumhos, although they ironically came with my car when I bought them, would be my second choice simply because I don't trust Korean products. Had a Samsung phone, the battery fried in 2 weeks. Samsung monitor, we'll just say I'm glad I had an extinguisher. My dad's ex g/f had a Hyundai, and my friend had a Kia, everything was going wrong left and right.

I mean, the Kumhos don't give me problems and a good set of eco-tires until I can finally afford to get a new set of rims, but who knows. Things change a lot in 5 years.

Thanks!! I really appreciate everyone's advice. I think I will go with the Yokohamas, based on the suggestions. I have checked them out on tirerack.com. There is a dealer in my area who accepts the shipment and then can install them. Oh and yes, I have 17" rims... :)

Katherine,

Can you please post how you like the Yokohama's once you have them installed?

Just something slightly off topic - but I always fly into Charlotte when I have to go visit my one office in Clover, SC...small world.

Best of luck with the new tires!

I'm sorry for being retarded but what do you mean your tires "stick" ? Is that good or bad??

Wow Mayor, that is pretty neat, small world indeed! I like the Charlotte Airport a lot because they have those nice rocking chairs :) :) Thanks for the well wishes. I will post my opinion once I get these tires (that is, if the whole sticking thing is not actually a bad thing. lol).

I have them Khumho Estas or how ever you spell it. At first they are AWESOME. But as they wear down, I notice they suck!! I dont feel safe driving on them as if they cant handle my car as I hoped. Im going with Yokohomas next or some other brands Im hearing are good.
