How many Gen 2 sport V sixes here w/o a sunroof/moonroof?

Postby iinokturnolii » Thu Aug 03, 2006 6:59 pm

sebas007, i "kinda" get what you are saying now...

classy, i get what your are saying now... since you explained it. come to think of it... it will take off a few inches... i would just think the roof part would just be covered thats all and never would use up any more or less headroom space...
never actually thought about it that way...

I'm just a hair under 6'5" and agree with Sebas. (I clearly understood his post because I regularly speak Canadian, ... eh? J/K bro ) I have the steering all the way back and seat slightly reclined. I just can't stand driving "Granny Position" which has the seat set at 90°. :o

Seriously Classy, give the sunroof a test drive. I think you will find a steering wheel and seat position setting that will be very confortable for 'ya. Besides, I'd wager the resale value is higher with the sunroof. You'd probably not save anything at the dealer by having the sunroof deleted.

Best of luck to ya.

Headroom is a major complaint w/ these cars. This is a fact. As mentioned a simple seat adjustment and telescopic steering wheel remedies the issue IMHO.

I'm 6'4 and he's right, you lose 2 inches with a sunroof, or more. It has to slide somewhere right? But mine has one and it's ok. The telescoping steering wheel helps so I'm basically laying down in my car while driving. Wouldn't have it any other way!

I actually drove a truck the other day with plenty of headroom and it felt weird sitting up like that.

You can order one without. They gave me that option, but I needed a car right a way so I took the sinroof. It has given me the most problems out of any other part of my car. I've actually had it replaced! The dealership can put an order when they are manufacturing them to not check sunroof as an option with your sport. Go for it.

this is ironic...my 04 Sport V6 did not come with a factory sunroof. i wanted black and they only had the one black sport in stock. wasn't leaving without a car so i had them put a sunroof in it. big mistake...but that's another story. anyway, i'm also 6'4" like a few of you and i have plenty of room in the drivers seat. i know you lose almost 2 inches of headroom with an internal sunroof but i'm pretty sure the majority of that loss is in the backseat where the roof retracts to, as my head touches back there. although i've never done the research i strongly feel the gen II solara has some of the most cabin space as far as coupes go...more than some 4 doors. not trying to sway any opinions...if you don't like sunroofs you don't like em....but the V6 Sports were available without them back in 04...

if anyone's interested in seeing how the dealer/contractor hosed my sunroof install, have at it, middle link toward the bottom: http://webmail.cablespeed.com/~bhodges

Wow man! Read your web page and your letters. So, you didn't get any resolution at all? That dealer sounds like they suck big time! Did Toyota corporate help?

Classy: I agree with PXL...get the convertible :D While I'm only 6', I can tell you that with the top up, there's tons of headroom, and with the top down...well 8)

The Solara is one of the nicest looking convertibles you can get for a reasonable price. HIGHLY recommended :D

Jesa & I went this past weekend to a Toyota dealership & I sat in a 06' sport v6 with a sunroof & I did find that I fit in it ok but I'd rather not have one. I agree tho...It is a nice feature to have. I didn't bother asking them about ordering one for me because the stealership I went to had no idea about anything to begin with. I had one tell Jesa & I that the 07' Lara's came with the 3.5 & that the sport package started in 07'. Jesa ripped a new a$$ hole to that sales person...LOL!

I plan to order mine without one. 8)

i actually received no support from toyota corp whatsoever. after speaking with several representatives, including their regional director of maintenance, they do not advocate aftermarket parts of any kind, nor would they stand behind the wrongdoings of their franchised dealership. it came to the point where i would have needed to sue the dealership directly and i really didn't have the time or the money. i'll probably never buy another 'brand new' car again because of those chumps.....

Ninja,

I woldn't let this keep you from buying a new car again. Just don't add on any aftermarket items that require cutting big holes on your car. I have had 5 new cars, and each dealership is different. You just need to shop around a little more next time, and pay attention to the little subtleties that tip you off to bad dealers.

Additionally, if you ever get any aftermarket work done, through the dealership, make them write down on paper that they will warrant it.

If anything, just stick your head out the window (or sunroof) like Ace Ventura Pet Detective-style... n drive away. of course driving in narrow 2-way lanes and in tunnels might be a problem :P
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

Yeah, they sold me a "certified" used car with an aftermarket spoiler and sunroof". the rules for certification specifically state no aftermarket parts. Nice right? I did sue Toyota, settled for 2k. Lawyers took half.. I won that was a good feeling.

So your sunroof was aftermarket as well, huh? Ever have any issues with it as far as leakage? Is your headliner nice and tight? My sunroof works excellent mechanically. It's even larger than the stock unit with memory settings, auto closure, and motion detection upon closure. My main problem is the crappy looks of the headliner and overhead console (dome lights)...

I'm glad to hear you won your suit...makes me feel a little better about my ordeal knowing you got some justice!!!
