hey steve, better to be safe then sorry.Obviously, I was not prepared for this to happen, but now in my new wallet I dont keep anything extra in it, just the necessary.I now will never leave my bag in my desk and put it with a girl whos always at her desk and away from the people who walk in and out of the office. Im bringing a cheap bag with me and wallet to work for now on cuz i cant afford to lose anything pricey right now.

I read through everyone's posts and one of the posts was spot on. You should call Equifax and have them place a fraud alert on your credit file for the next 90 days. They will propogate that to the other two agencies and every time a new account application is received, they call you first and ask about 10 questions. It made me feel a whole lot better, because when they called me even I had a hard time answering the questions.

I'd post some flyers around the building asking if anyone bought candy from kids, had something stolen, or found a purse and paperwork. Other than that I believe this is a tax deductable loss, but I'm not providing any advice on that subject. Hey at least try to get back xx% from taxes.

Happens to the best of us, hope you feel better soon!

I got that advice from everyone here at my job also. I will do that. Do you know if they charge you a fee for that? Supposedly some charge.Im sure the fee is worth it but just curious.

There is no charge, I called Transunion not Equifax. Of course they will try to sell you credit monitoring services and credit reports. You are entitled to one free credit report per year and you don't need credit monitoring services. Go to this goverment site, otherwise you may be directed to companies trying to fool you into a "free" report.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/cre ... eports.htm

Here's the direct link to add a 90 day fraud alert:
