I just been to the dealer to ask if its under warranty. I got the same answer as dvdchris45 did. They are saying its caused by some sort of chemicals like lotion and oil. I told them it was just few drops of rain, and the guy helping me out says it cannot possibley caused by rain or water.

I don't even use lotion, and there has been no other chemicals on it other than water and rain!!

Guess I will try out some other dealers around. :(

That's bull crap! I'd check out another dealer - if you still get crap go directly to Corporate and report the dealers for not taking care of something that should be warranteed against defective materials/workmanship.

In agreement with PXL...There should be nothing in your car that would discolor or peel/flake within the first 5 years. If it does, something is wrong.

I know that the sun and heat can do damage, but that's long term stuff, shouldn't happen so soon!

Actually, "PXL" is short for "Pixel" - which is what I derived my screen name from "Pixel Painter". ;)

WTF guys??!!! Can somebody please take a pic of the part that's "peeling"? I've looked at mine and it seems like it's all hard plastic (like th dash) so I don't understand what's actually peeling here...

On the actual armrests (in the coupe, not sure about the convertible), there is soft leather padding behind the control panel. The leather has a thin protective film over it (it's a clear, vinyl coating)... That's what's peeling.

I'm at work, so I don't have any pics, but here's a pic I took of Toyota's site just to show you the piece that this applies to:

I been to three dealers to fix this problem. :(

As I posted before, the first dealer (Ourisman Chantilly Toyota) told me it is not under warranty because it is caused by some sort of chemical.

Manager at the second dealer (Ourisman Fairfax Toyota) told me he have never seen something like that and claims that coat may have been protective coat applied by the dealer that sold me the car and it is not part of the vehicle. So, he cannot give warranty service because if he give me the warranty and it turns out it was not part of vehicle, he might get fired. (He should be fired anyway for not knowing the vehicle at all!)

So I went to the dealer I bought the car. (which takes about 30~40 min drive from where I live :( Koons Tysons Toyota )
It turns out they were the most friendly dealer. Manager looked at the armrest and told me it might have been some sold of cleanler that caused problem. (Which I didn't use!) But its still under warranty. He said he knows someone that does interior repair and he will have him repair that part instead of replacing whole thing because the color might not match with other parts if replaced. (True, but he may be lying to reduce cost. )
He wasn't able to contact that repair guy and he is supposed to call me to set an appoinment when he gets the call back from repair guy.
Hope this dealer doesn't turn me down too.
At least the manager did say it is covered by warranty.

Ok dude, since you went to Ourisman Fairfax I can help you out a bit... I wasn't aware that you are from Northern VA...

Who did you speak to? I'll take my car in there and have something done about it... that way they will have seen another instance of it.

Let me know...

I did not catch his name. (I'm bad with names anyway.) But I was told that he is the manager.
He seemed to be in 50s and had gray hair.[/quote]
