3700 only? Probably best to bring it back to the dealer for warranty work.

Mines make the same sound. Does it go away after the car gets heated up and going or thru daily driving it diappears? If so, its your alt belt mines makes it when its really damp or really cold.

A light squirt of belt dressing will make it disappear ( remember I said Light ). if you apply too much you will have a new noise cause from to heavy of a coating running thru the pulleys. Kinda like when you step rose your bike on a peice of gum and your tire made a funny sound tlll you took it off or wore it down.
So me placing 10 inch rims on my car will make it handle better? Cool.

Postby solara2200 » Tue Mar 18, 2003 1:16 am

I have the same problem since i got my car new. It started about the 5,000 mile range and now currently has 25,000 miles on a 2001 2.2 liter. By the way, what engine do you guys have that make the screeching noise?

That is one of the few noises you look forward to hearing :D

Did you ever figure out what was causing the problem?

sh*t, i coulda swore i posted my reply. (seems like my posts have been getting deleted from mods lately... :-? )

anyway, burning solara was right, it was coming from the alternator. i just squirted a little WD-40 on my finger and "lubed" up the rusty bolt that was making the noise. the noise came back though, so i dunno what it is...

just lube that area very lightly, being cautious not to saturate that area.

then lick the excess WD-40 off your finger and spin around in circles and you're done!
