The only 4 door modern convertible was built by Lincoln from 1961 to 1967. While I said I did not care for a four door, that car was beautiful. There is some talk that Chrysler might give the green light for a 300 hardtop convertible. A lot of engineering details to sort out, but it is possible. As to the 350Z, to me at least, it is the one car that looks better as a coupe than it does as an convertible. Anyway, I'm sorry to see the Solara go. I've had mine now for a number of months, and so far, I've been very pleased with it. Frankly, I like it better than my CL that it replaced. The CL seemed to have a little more pep and a few more features, but nobody ever seemed to notice it. The Solara however, many times when I park it I get "nice car what is that a Lexus?"

No Comparison

Postby red2002solara » Sat Jul 01, 2006 10:12 am

I drove a Sebring convertible rental for a week. Man, what a POS it was. No get up and go, the car rattled like there was no tomorrow, and the quality was definitely subpar compared to the Solara.

I think if Honda continues to produce an Accord coupe on the redesign Toyota will eventually come back to the coupe market. Even though Lexus has a premium coupe and Scion has the tC, it just doesn't seem right that Toyota would have no coupe in it's lineup (I'm still bitter that the Celica went away. That name was around for twenty years).

I think you're right, once Toyota sees other manufacturers making some decent sales they'll come back to the coupe market.

I still thinks it's funny. Chasing empty nesters with a four door crossover rather than a coupe.

PT Cruiser?

Hey, I saw the G6 ad on TV and it looks like they swiped the solara tail light for the most part. Lame.
Yup... http://www.pontiac.com/g6coupe/index.jsp
The coupe 2-door has Sloara-ish tails.

... and looking at the conv... I'm thinking the design team sat around a Toyota brochure and thought of ways to make it just different enough.
