Could you fab some kind of way to mount a couple of 10" Subs on either side - eliminating the stock plastic thingy with the little OEM fake paper sub in it? Hmmm... :-?

That's pretty much what I was talking about in my earlier post. The space is not big, and the angles aren't very square. It would be a small box as it was, and you'd have to be VERY good to fit a 10" in there, let alone two.

The reason I went with an upscaled 8" was that it happened to match pretty well with the size of the stock enclosure (around 20 liters), and if it didn't work out, I was going to build a 'custom box' that filled the entire space and used two 8" woofers.

I'm also going to replace the door and dash speakers, add more amps, and disconnect the speakers at the rear seat armrests.

Unfortunately, I get so little time each week to play with stuff like this, that it'll probably take me through the summer to get the sound I want.

Always thought the stereo fade out was a "feature" to let you know that the top is moving or that you're done. Or an electrical thing to prevent excess current draw. Now I'm going to have to check my manual.

I'm with you, I thought it was to let you know that the top had made it all the way down or up...never noticed anything about this in the manual.

Guys - here's the page in the manual.

It's not exactly clear in the manual as to WHAT it does...

...but my guess is that it just might make it a little louder when you put the top down? Go figure? Why? You still have to adjust the volume when you speed up and slow down! Not like you can put your top down at 70mph and it will automatically make it loud enough to hear! Sheez...

Gauges looked great... nav worked flawlessly with the voice recognition, and the 440 watts really shows on the high end of volume. HID was impressive. Looked pretty good in person.

Going to put one on preference, and put down a deposit next week. Got an excellent deal... 500 over invoice and free sirius install and 6 months of service(500 dollar value)... so I am basically getting it at "invoice".

What Solara model do you presently own and how much are you getting for it if I may ask? Trade-in or selling yourself?

PXL: You scan that, or do you have an online manual? If it's an online manual, did you have to pay for it and how much? I want one online.

It's not the volume, it's the EQ. The resonance of the cabin changes quite a bit at various frequencies when you lower the top. The unit adjusts with a little treble here, a little bass there... The idea is to make the response of the system the same whether the top is up or down. I have, in fact, measured a different frequency response of the system top up and down. But I don't know how much of the response difference was due to the EQ and how much was acoustics. This EQ effect is one of the reasons I'm trying to keep the unit in play even though I'm upgrading much of the system. It's a good idea, if they're doing it right.

If I get a chance to measure the electrical EQ, I will and I'll post it. But wifey has me busy. Don't hold your breath.

Special feature... when you put the top down at 70mph, the stereo tries to minimize the sound of your convertible structure disintegrating into tiny pieces. Air brakes!!!
