2007 Solara JBL Audio - 440 Watts ???

Postby JadedEMOlush » Mon Jun 19, 2006 11:34 pm

Hi All... checked out the gen 2.5 the other day... looks pretty nice in person. One odd item I noticed was the soundsytem... the JBL models and NAV models stat a 440 Watt system with 8 speakers... a bit odd since the previous model was 270 watts with 8 speakers in 6 locations. The sticker made no mention of the speakers being in only six locations. I wasnt in the mood to bother a salesman to give it a listen, but it should sound incredible. Saw some rumors that it is now all digital, and is the same system as in the upgraded system of the 2007 Camry.

Anyone have anything to share regarding this?

Hopefully picking up my Gen 2.5 in the next few days... I was looking at the Lexus GS, but cannot justify the cost.

Was it a convertible? The convertibles actually have a more powerful system because of the wind noise when the top is down.

nope, not a Convertible... these were all SLE models... one with nav, 2 without. Yeah, the convertible has that extra speaker.

I am pretty sure they threw in the new Camry JBL system, most likely it would cost too much money, and be an absolute waste of money too tone down the new nav and jbl stereos. Cant wait to test drive the new stereo, if it is infact a digital system with 440 watts, should sound slick.

What extra speaker?? :-?

Two cheesy POS speakers in the back seat armrests is all I've seen. No deck speakers - and as far as the auto-level reduction they claim - it's a LIE!! It doesn't do squat no matter how fast/slow I'm driving - top up/down. I've taken it back to the dealer with this complaint and they said there's nothing wrong with it. Crap.

I have 6 speakers...two up on the dash, two in the front door and two in the back near the arm rests. I don't think there's much room for speakers in the convertible...although, I think the sound is good (volume too). I know you audiophiles won't think so, but it's really good for me.

PXL, what auto level reduction are you talking about? Our cars don't have any volume adjustment tied to speed. Is that what you are talking about? that could be why it doesn't work :D

Of course, I guess you could be talking about something else.

Jerry - look in your manual.

It's not speed per se, but noise level.

It's aupposed to automatically reduce the volume level when the wind noise level subsides.

It doesn't.

Hmm...I'll have to look, beccause I never noticed it in there. I really do read the whole manual when I buy a car. Mine doesn't do anything special either, so you aren't alone :-)

The extra speaker of reference in the convertibles is the subwoofer... It is powered in addition to the rest of the system, hence the higher output ratings of the stereo system in the conv over the coupe...

Where was this information about the 440W system found? I haven't been able to find anything about it (on Toyota's site or in the broshures)...

Where is this subwoofer? I have never seen it in my car.

Subwoofer? Where???

Sure doesn't feel like there's one around. The bottom end just gets mushy and the highs crackle. Not a very impressive system at all IMO.

Hey Prodigy.

The info about it being 440 watts is actually on the sticker of the 07 Solaras with the JBL systems on the lot.

Also, some references are made to the JBL 440 watt system on 2007 Camry press releases, but not on the toyota.com website.

Hell, if they are putting in a digital system @ 440 watts, they should absolutely boast about it!!!

All I can think of is it is not "official" numbers yet released from JBL, and thus toyota does not want it listed, if the system is in fact considerably lower.

Of course this won't be RMS power, but peak power. They have not updated the official Toyota/JBL website yet, so I'm sure it will be listed there once confirmed. Still listed as a 270 watt amplifier on their website.

http://www.jbltoyota.com/

Just odd it is on the sticker, but in none of the literature. Wonder if it is in the 07 full brochure.

OK, so I went to that site and looked at the speaker positions. Looks like the subwoofer is hidden under something. I'm going to check to see if I have one, cuz the base in my car ain't all that...wonder if mine is missing?

The subwoofer is a small box mounted behind the rear seats. It's a little 6.5" sub, I believe, that was intended to bring back the lost bass response of the 6" speakers in the rear of the convertible vs the 6"x9" speakers in the rear of the coupe.

That's interesting about the stickers displaying that... I gotta check into that a bit. Thanks for the info!
