Dual Exhaust

Postby Guest » Sat Mar 08, 2003 9:06 pm

so if i was to go about making a custom (single pipe) exhaust, what would some suggestions be. i plan on going from the y-pipe back (including the y- pipe), and what muffler would u suggest for a non - ricey sound. also i dont want it to sound like my car is underwater. (dunno if that last part makes sense) thanks.

I have a 2 1/2" pipe with a resonator and Dynomax. Its very quiet for a performance exhaust and flows really well. My car is s/c, for a n/a maybe 2 1/4" would be a better choice?

Buy a premade catback exhaust. Unless you plan to use mandrel bent pipe, a "custom" made exhaust is useless.

I agree. Push bent "custom made" exhaust would be useless. Push bending pipe results in approximately a 20% decrease in flow. In other words, a "custom made" 2 1/2" exhaust will flow at the same rate as a 2" mandrel bent exhaust.

You have a V6 so it wont sound like a fart can unless you buy one of those no name like Tanabe or like Greddy looking exhausts from some place. Magnaflow actually makes decent mufflers with nice sound if that's the route you wanna go with.

All the magnaflow units are axle back (universal application). You just have to find a local muffler shop that carries Magnaflow and have them either 1) fabricate new piping from the cat or 2) cut your oem exhaust's piping bend from the flange...into the new exhaust. There are several options, the first option will obviously be the most expensive.

if the piping is still the same diamter, why would it matter if the piping is "custom made, push bent" or specific "mandrel bent"? i mean if its the same diameter why does it make a difference how the pipe is fabricated or bent? i dont see how you would get less flow from an exhaust that was formed a different way, but is still the same diameter.

Mandrel bent piping doesn't lose its diameter when bent in a curve unlike other methods. The idea here is to get the smoothest exhaust flow without and hard kinks or bends to hinder airflow. If you understand aerodynamics, then you would understand the concept of air restriction and drag.

Thats another reason why a catback exhaust may look a little different then a stock one. My Apexi exhaust had less drastic bends and was overall straighter

Push bending pipe collapses the inner side of the bend resulting in a 20% decrease in cross-sectional area.

sorry but i must reply to this stupid rambling of you ignorant fools. Ok here is the truth i have been a master toyota diagnostician for two years now and have seen many solaras come thru the shop with dual exhaust and yet have i noticed any signs of loss of power and what backk pressure back pressure only comes in effect for vehicles with a carbuerator not fuekl injection this hole cat back thing is very funny i have yet to own a car worthless enough to put any ignorant exhaust take for example my 00 toyota solara with a transplanted v8 out of a 92 lexus ls400 it not only is a torque monster it produce enough horse power to wipe all of you of the street with a mere tap of the accelerator. learn more about you toyota before meesing with it.

Who is this big idiot! To start he needs to learn how to spell! This guy probably has dual exhaust on his "Monster" V8 Solara. and, I bet his next mod is going to be to make his Solara rear wheel drive, with a Supra Engine>! Fool...show your face coward!
Yeah, that's why he is just a guest, try becoming a member and see if he'll post his smartass remarks then!

Sorry...I just get mad when 16 year olds get to use their moms PC.

1) sorry, i didnt know that exhaust systems had intellectual capabilities
2) not everyone has the money, skill, or will to perform an engine swap as you, the almighty, obviously possess
3) did anyone say that their solara could beat his in a drag race?
4) moreover, what does your monstrous, torque monster of a V8 have to do with an exhaust system for our 4's and 6's
5) why dont you enlighten us rather than try to belittle people over the internet (ironic, i know)
and as for your final comment, WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE WERE TRYING TO DO???
