well personally never really liked fords, but my toyota solara 6cyl is great. I've had it less than a year and i have almost 28k miles on it. Almost all highway miles, and considering it being a 6cyl and the way i drive the gas mileage is pretty decent.
and beyond having a great engine and machinery in the car even the body/frame work is strong as balls. I've been rear ended twice and all I have to show for it is a slight rub/scratch. Hopefully the dealer makes u happy with whatever they do with your car.

Toyota Quality

Postby red2002solara » Tue Jun 13, 2006 10:09 pm

Glad to hear the dealership worked with you. I just bought my 06 Solara SLE V6 back in April, and had not one bit of problem with it (which I expected).

I travel alot in my job, and have driven many different cars through rentals. In addition, I've had the fortune to test drive new models at consumer events and private events held by the manufacturers. From driving all the different makes and models Toyota and Honda really do put together a really good product. No one is perfect, and they make lemons like any other automaker, but much less lemons. It's not only they make reliable vehicles, but their vehicles feel solid.

Back in 89 my dad bought a new Corolla LE. It had a suspension problem that repeatedly gave him problems. The car was eventually declared a lemon and purchased back by the dealer. Did my dad leave Toyota? No. Because he knew it was an exception. His 85 Corolla and 95 Tacoma both ran with not one problem.

My partner's car, an 03 Escape Limited, is a low quality auto in my opinion. The moonroof has been replaced twice, the rear brakes squeel (and they don't need replacing), the steering column has been replaced due to a loud noise (which it still makes), the multi-CD changer jams occasionally. and you have to be careful removing the cigarette lighter otherwise you can pop the entire plastic dash cover off. The car only has now 27,000 miles on it. When I'm out of town, he drive my car because he likes the way it handles and drives much more (both our cars are equally equipped with the same options). He wants to buy either and Acura or Lexus for his next car.

Your new Solara should run without any issues. I know alot of people want to bad mouth Toyota because of their success. Well, they got there because they earned it. Yes the dealers are arrogant because they know they sell a top notch product. But I'd rather deal with that than a headache of a car.

BTW, my partner is in Europe for 5 weeks. His Escape is sitting in the garage collecting dust, 'cause I certainly ain't driving it. 8)

I'd rather not talk about the tranny problems on my '94 Taurus (2 repairs in 2 years).

Well I bought my '06 and it had to have the power steering reservoir changed due to an internal leak. This was in the first week of ownership. I had to take it to two dealerships because the first dealership (Putnam Toyota) wouldn't admit to the leak because I filled the reservoir up. I took it to Melody Toyota and they diagnosed and fixed it up.

This is my first new Toyota and I was a little disappointed but realize it's the dealership that makes more of a pleasant experience than the brand. I do tend to buy Japanese only and also try to get models actually made in Japan.

Glad the dealership made it work out for you. See gave you the opportunity to switch to a V6 without losing anything on the 4 cylinder purchase...

Wow... Here I am talking about my 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8S with transmission, braking, steering, suspension, CEL every other month, starter that the idiots can't get to the bottom of and stalling on the freeway once. Oh well, glad Lemon Law came through since I never wanted the car in the first place (it was bought during Gray Davis' registration increase).

I do know what it's like to own a car with problems, but knowing Toyota, that might've been just a rough start vs. Nissan with a car assembled in Aguascalientes, Mexico that might've dragged the reliability rating down the the lower 1/3 when my friend had an Altima that never gave him problems (but then again it was built in the Tennessee plant).
