Headlight Dilemma

Headlight Dilemma

Postby NotDads » Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:22 pm

Okay people I need your help as what I should do.

I really like the look of a headlight that shines a nice bright white. So I went out and bought one set of the 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen bulbs and two sets of the 3457AST Silverstar Signal Bulbs. Not realizing when I did this that the parking lights and turn signals are all one bulb.

So my first question is that: I only need one set of the 3457AST Silverstar Signal bulbs correct? And this bulb will work for both my parking and turn signals????

Second I like to drive with my fog lights on. So if I install the 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen bulbs I will have to drive around with my brights on. There for, my fog lights will not work. So my question is should I install the 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen bulbs in for my fog lights, buy some H11 Nokay Arctic White Stage II for the low beams, and rock the 3457AST Silverstar Signal bulbs? That way I can have my fog lights on. Or do I just install the 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen bulbs and drive around with my brights on all the time?

or do I spend the money and redo all the bulbs?:
High Beams: 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen Bulbs
Low Beams H11 Nokya Arctic White Stage II
Fog: 9005ST Silverstar High Performance Halogen Bulbs
Parking Light/Turn signals: 457AST Silverstar Signal Bulb

but with all that for the low beams and fog will I ever need the High Beams???????

I like the look of TS04 car in this thread:http://www.solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=11121 clear head lights and fog lights during the day but with a nice blue glow around the turn signal....

9005STs will not work in your fogs.

That requires a 9145ST which is really hard to find- what I'm currently running in mine, but still look "yellow" compared to my HIDs

IF you want a "bright white" you probably want HID's, not silverstars, etc.

Silverstar is pretty low in the Kelvin ratings and quite frankly a rip-off... They only last 1 year. For the same price, get one of these:

I got them; they work GREAT, 2 year warranty (at least from where I got them) even the DRLs aren't yellow and about the same price but well worth it. Besides, why bother with high beams? It's one of the most annoying things to have in your rearview mirror, even with 20% tint and an electrochromic dimmer (at least in my case)!

They don't make a 9145 bulb for the fogs though... at least not listed on their site. ;)

Thanks for all your input. I ended up putting in blue parking lights and some hyper whites for the brights, and took my stock brights and put them in for the fog lights. Everything is working fine....

A 9145 bulb is also referenced to as a HB3 or 9005.

Where is this reference made? And if it truly is the same as a 9005, why does it have a completely different number (and hard as hell to find anywhere!)?? Are you sure the bayonette on the base is a proper fit?

I finally found 9145 Silverstars at a huge Pep Boyz after searching for a couple weeks... I have a collection of different bulbs I've tried in a box in the garage, so I'll have to go check out the bases and see what the diffs are.

I know the fogs in my Tundra were originally 9006 but I could mod the base slightly on a 9005 to fit, but I also had the potential for leaks because it wasn't a perfect fit. Then again, I was doing a lot of off-roading so... ;)

I took the stock brights out of the headlight and put them in place of my fog lights. Fit was perfect and no problems as of yet. They have been in there for about a week now.
