Navigation question

Navigation question

Postby QtPiie » Thu Feb 09, 2006 1:17 pm

Here is what my factory radio looks like... does the navigation go under that? Would it be hard to press buttons if the shifter is in the way? What units are good to buy? Hope I can get some help. I dont know crap about this :D and I dont want to go to the dealer and them install one and get ass raped. :)

navigation usually (not always) replaces your stock radio...

there was someone on cardomain that installed a second headunit in the lower compartment.

Thanks for the reply

I should of known that the navigation would taken the place of my radio like in the Mercedes I had but I had seen a picture of a Solara with a radio and navigation screen on top. I think thats what your talking about.

Which Navigation system works with this car?

in response to a good portable gps unit, i have the garmin c330, its awesome, i got mine after a checked out my friends c330. very reliable and already preloaded with maps for US and Canada. i have heard bad things about the magellan brand overall especially with the reliability factor, but i have no experience with that brand. i got my c330 at circuit city for like $550, but i have seen if for lower and higher.

I post this question on another board and its interesting the replies I got I am posting here for FYI.. hope this information is helpful

stay away from Ocean Electronics on eBay. they sell a bunch of GPS stuff cheap, but theyre really f'king me over as we speak. wont return calls or emails on an RMA unit.

Garmin 2610 is about the best one ive seen. i know a few people that have them including my dad (and would like to have one myself!) and theyre all very happy with them. you may want to look into that.

Garmin has a good rep among those who ride with them a lot

This place seems to have ok prices, but I haven't ordered from them myself. There are deals on ebay too from time to time.

+1..love mine. Use it for the car and the bike. And I take it when I travel with the beanbag mount..awesome GPS. Plus you can chang ethe voices to several languages...I like British English the best....sounds hilarious like Bloke!!! Check Ebay...you can pick up a brand new one fairly cheap!

Only real upgrade to the 2610 is the 2730. 2730 includes XM stuff and with the right subscription gets weather and traffic overlayed on the map and can reroute around problems

Otherwise I agree the 2610 seems to be the one to go with

I have the Garmin Nuvi and it is great! The new Tomtom has integrated blue tooth which is nice.

They both seem to work well.

in regards to both topics this is what i know of...

for the headunit topic...they actually replace the whole headunit piece and fill it in with a double din nav/dvd/mp3 unit. there's a dash piece that'll hold it in. the question with that is i dont know if they sell the dash piece or if it was made from a shop.

secondly the portable gps is pretty nice and works just like the car nav. i have the tomtom 900 series and its great, has bluetooth capabilities for a speaker phone, will update using my cellphone, will show actual live "traffic jam" on the map. the only downfall about the portable ones are the screens are small and it being lcd, if left in the sun too long it will stop working temporarily. yea i kno there's bigger screens but...like its called..."portable"

ive been lookin at the kenwood p-nav6019 and it'd be a sweet piece of candy for my ride. downfall...expensive (about 1300) but if the dashkit part "is" custom fab....probably will have to throw another 300...

oh yea...and to the first question about the nav possibly being in the area under the headunit...well now u kno it doesnt go there but i have a 6 monitor in there and its great...looks real nice cuz the lid still covers it...

good luck with the nav man

E7009 Nav Unit question

Postby seany » Tue Jul 18, 2006 1:24 pm

can either 06 or 07 Navigation owner check, in the security unlock menu where you override so you can enter destination address while drving, if it spells "Override" or "Over Ride"?
also, if the MIC test works in the Diagnostic mode?
