fluid change

fluid change

Postby Aotoyota » Mon May 15, 2006 10:25 pm

has anyone changed the major fluids? brake/coolant/tranny with stuff other than what is recommended.

I ask because brakes will need to be done soon and I have noticed considerable brake fade, and thinking of a high boiling point brake fluid. Along with that is that I am considering to run synthetic tranny fluid.

any suggestions or experience?

this isnt for racing or anything but if i need to do it might as
well do it right!

cheers in advance.

For your brakes it's going to be overkill going with high boiling point because your not doing 8 hours of track and your rotors don't get red hot.

For switching over to synthetic I wouldn't recommend it unless you're within 3000 miles. The reason is that synthetic oil is less dense then regular oil, and your bearings will wear with what type of oil you use. If you run regular oil for a considerable amount of time them there will be more gap and more wear around the bearings then if you were running synthetic for the same amount of time. The rule of thumb that I've heard is that if you want to change to synthetic, you start at your first oil change. Using regular oil for the first 3000 miles help wear the bearings in properly but not so much that synthetic oil will not coat properly. Myself I make the switch after the first 1000.

Is 6000 miles too off for switching to synthetic? I was planning on using Mobil 1...any comments?
