few questions about solara 06

Postby Yehor » Tue May 02, 2006 11:39 am

hi all solara owners from Ukraine, Kiev.

I have toyota solara 2006 SLE V6.

and i have few questions to you guys. There are no such thing as official dealer and service centre from that kind of car (solara is only model for usa and ca, no europe). so no OFFICIAL service at all :)
questions:
-When i should do my first maintence? replace oil, check wheels stearling and other minor things
-anyone has been driving car at winter? when air is -20 C degrees can you close car's doors without problem?
-any different between driving car on 95 or 98 gasoline?

maybe you can give me some advices and hints about this car, i am first time driver and its my first car. Already 1100 KM on my odometr :)

Hi Yehor,

to anwser some of your question.

The oil change is due to every 8000km or so.
I don't know why you could have problem closing doors under -20 C...we probably have the same weather (I'm from Quebec, Canada) and there is no limit on low the temp can be...as long as it is humanly possible ;)
I don't know for the Solara but Toyota does tests in the Nothern territories in Canada to test their cars in very low temp.
For the octane in the gas, it seems that there is no difference (if some...not enough to be a good deal)

Mechanically, the car is identical to the 02-06 US. Camry. You can follow the maintenance schedule for that car, and can be worked on by mechanics who are familiar with that car. I believe that generation Camry was identical here and near Russia.

US one also came with 3.0L in 02-06. The 3.3 was exclusive to the Camry 02-06 in SE V6 trim. The LE V6 and XLE V6 came with the 3.0L engine

The 3.0 and 3.3 are from the same engine family (MZ family), so they are still very similar.

Yehor,

Are you closing the door with the heater fan on? I've noticed mine is hard to close when I have my air conditioning running before I close the door. Sometimes I start the car before I close the driver's door and the air is trying to escape.

Other than that, cold weather would cause the door and the glass to become proportionally smaller than in hot weather. I can't think of why the window would be too big in cold weather. It sounds like someone else from Quebec has already said they don't have the same issue, so probably not the cold.

I change my oil every 5000miles (~8050km) using Mobil1 synthetic.

It sounds like Yehor's window is out of alignment and needs to be fixed so the door closes normally.

Hello, Yehor,
Very nice to meet somebody from Europe out here.
I’m from Vilnius and have similar problems with my car, because dealers usually don’t service this car too.
But you can contact your Toyota dealers in some cases they are trying to help you (but not always).

On your door issue:
You must take the door panel off. Search the forum, there is an instruction how to do that. It is not so difficult, but you must know how to do that.
When you took off the panel, you can see, there are two bolts with big white cylinders on top of the door in different sides of the door window.
With these bolts you can adjust the level the window is lifting up, by rising or lowering the position of these.
For all that you need only a cross screwdriver.

slingshot may be right...its prolly out of alignment.

I had a door/window problem when I first got my car. The passenger door's window would rattle everytime I shut it with the window the down. It wasnt long before one day the wouldnt lock and I found out a solenoid was jammed. This, in turn, wouldnt allow my keyless entry to disengage.

Keep an ear out for that too folks! If your windows rattle when you put them down be careful!
