Gen 2 Rolled Fenders (to take care of rubbing)

rnsmelody wrote:that wouldnt be the problem, but its highly recommended that you should never use an impact gun on aftermarket wheels and tuner lugs.. it would be harder for you to get em off and you have a higher chance of stripping the lugs. so impact gun is a big NO NO!

Oh, I was referring to the coilover installation when I said impact wrench, not the lugs/wheels...

rnsmelody wrote:when you are getting ur fender rolled.. make sure they use a heat gun for it.. your paint would have a less chance of cracking. if you are lucky find a place that rolls fender with a fender roller & heat gun..

i know a shop in milipitas that has a fender roller (last year thou)..its called emotion garage. i dunno how much they charge and etc.. its located by blacktrax performance and great mall area.. so you might wanna try them if they still have it.

or last resort you can use a brembo and shave your fenders.

I'm gonna ask around a few other places, but from our collective experiences, and from someone I already contacted, looks like that extra piece of metal/non-flat area would make it extremely difficult (and hence, noone would try it) to roll... I'll try your place after I try some more local ones... thanks for the info!

PS Just how bad for the tires is the rubbing against the fenders? Would it take half of the life of my tires away? 1/4? 1/3? It might not even be worth the hassle if it isn't that big of a safety concern...

Anyone else have any ideas why this is happening?

I just had a buddy in the car, and it rubs like crazy when driving around on local streets...

Should I take the car to another mechanic?

I have an update on this (for scLara626, or anyone else interested)...

I had a feeling the shop I had my alignment done at wasn't the best... so I went and talked to the local WheelWorks shop. After explaining the problem I was having (rubbing on only the back passenger tire), they said they'd take a look at it. They ended up doing another alignment, and it looks like they fixed my problem.

The fender is no longer rubbing on the tire when I'm going over dips or when I have passengers. I can slip my hand in between the two. From what they explained to me, they re-aligned it and went to the other extreme of OEM specifications to tuck the tire within the fender.

The only worry for me, right now, is that they had put down that my car is a 2003 Solara... so, I figure in a few months, I'll take it back and ask them about it (since WheelWorks has a 12000 mi/1 year warranty on their alignments). Unless... anyone know if the specifications are drastically different from car to car?

If you could take a pic straight from behind just to see the camber on the wheel if any, and the clearance would be cool too. Well your whole car if you can also.

255? 245 would rub my ride.. i'm gettin my 20s. The tire size that will fit perfect on my ride is 225-35-20. I had 19s on my ride as well, 225-35-19 & 235-35-19 tires.I'm dropped 2 inches. I had no probs wit my tires so far with the 19s. I dont know if ur ride is dropped. Having thinner tires does suck, but there will b no rubbing issues and i had a smooth ride.
