Gen 2 Rolled Fenders (to take care of rubbing)

(Don't think this qualifies as an aftermarket upgrade... more like OEM modification :) but, if it's inappropriate, please move)...

So, I'm having some rubbage issues... anyone here have their fenders rolled? Possible on a Gen 2? Did you do it yourself? If not, how much did it cost you? Would it be just back/just front/front and back? I'm hoping this would cure my rubbing...

PS I've read the other posts (mostly by rnsmelody)... just wanted info from the Gen 2 guys/gals...

PPS Too bad rnsmelody's contact isn't doing it anymore... I'm in and out of Hayward all the time!

PPPS I saw the post in tutorials... that's why I'm asking about it specifically on a Gen 2...

PPPPS Nothing for now :)

My only fear doing it myself would be cracking the paint...

Good luck - hope someone has a real solution or knows somebody who does!

That's exactly my fear... I wouldn't mind paying someone else to do it as long as they come recommended...

Good ol' Craigslist...

-deleted-

$75 for the back two fenders... Deal or No Deal? :)

I guess I should go home and check to make sure the back does need rolling, and that the front doesn't...

Any other input? DIY-ers?

So... took a look at the fenders... looks like the back needs to be rolled...

Also noticed that the flat edge of the fender (the part that's to be rolled) is doubled up with a second layer of metal, and is uneven?

Will that influence how "roll-able" it is?

I need input from Gen 2-ers that have gotten it rolled...

From what i heard, at least from shops its impossible, the fenders are squared and wont go up easily, what they opted for is have them cut to look like a zipper with the up and down pattern so they can be pushed one by one( i tried to describe it the best i can , hope you get the idea? ), but he would have to repaint the whole area b'cuz the banging and heat from the blade would warp the paint. I said No!

I was just working under my car today and had all the wheels off (installing the mud guards and painting my calipers) and noticed that the front fenders are already rolled pretty tight in the top 1/3 of the wheel well. The back fenders need to be rolled if you're squeezed in there, but the fronts won't need to be on the Gen 2 (well, at least the 2006 Convertible that is). ;)

Dang... I checked with the craigslist guy... he either can't or won't do it...

I don't have it as bad as fromperv... ahem... scLara626 ;)

I only hear the back rubbing when I'm going over dips fast...

BUT, I also notice that when I'm taking turns really hard, I hear what I think is the FRONT rubbing?!? Still gotta replicate that one to find out for sure...

On a slightly different note, still related to the rubbing...

Has anyone experienced this...

I went to check how much clearance I have between the rear tire and the fender today, and noticed that on one side (the driver's side), I can slip my hand in between the tire and fender (approximately half an inch of space). When I go around to the passenger's side to check it out, I can't get my hand in there, there's at most 1/8" between the fender and the tire... and on the tire, you can clearly see where it's rubbing.

Now, is there anyway I can even out the gap between the two sides? Jack up the car and try to push everything over to the driver's side?

Why the heck did this happen in the first place? If I can take care of this, it should take care of my rubbing without rolling the fenders...

PS I did get an alignment and have the printout... did they fudge up somewhere?

Thats very common. I dont know another car that doesnt have the problem. My old car did the same thing, my brothers car does it, my friends car does it, but i never ever heard a logical explanation for this. SHops tell me it happens with every drop . I think mines is also the same, driver side does have more clearence.

Ah, ok, thanks for the info... it just seems so... weird... at least now I know it's not just me.

I wonder if it has anything to do with overtightening one of the bolts (my guys used a impact wrench)...

that wouldnt be the problem, but its highly recommended that you should never use an impact gun on aftermarket wheels and tuner lugs.. it would be harder for you to get em off and you have a higher chance of stripping the lugs. so impact gun is a big NO NO!

when you are getting ur fender rolled.. make sure they use a heat gun for it.. your paint would have a less chance of cracking. if you are lucky find a place that rolls fender with a fender roller & heat gun..

i know a shop in milipitas that has a fender roller (last year thou)..its called emotion garage. i dunno how much they charge and etc.. its located by blacktrax performance and great mall area.. so you might wanna try them if they still have it.

or last resort you can use a dremel and shave your fenders.
