Clear plastic vinyl near door

Clear plastic vinyl near door

Postby DougSolara » Fri Apr 14, 2006 11:39 pm

Hey guys,

I'm still getting used to my Solara and have a quick question. On both sides, near the doors there is a small clear vinyl thing? Almost like a protective layor, it also has a little bit of dirty under it around the edges.

I dont have my digi camera with me, so this is the best I can do visually.

Heres a dealer pic of my car, the circle outlines the area on both sides where this thing resides. The green squiggly is supposed to represent what it looks like.

What is it?
Can/Should I remove it?
Anyone to clean it if i shouldn't remove it?

Much thanks,
-Doug

hmm yeah, I might give take it up there speak with him.

It looks like it is protecting that small L shaped area from scratches but that makes no sense to me, I cannot logically see how that space is more vulnerable than others. Im also not good with cars so that might have something to do with it. :)

lmfao none of you figured it out yet????????

OMFG CLEAR BRA!!!!!!!

its to protect it from rockchips as that area is prone to getting nicked.. look on most SUVs specifically the older landcruisers on the rear fender wells same thing...

i cant belive no one figured that one out????

As "trdkamuri51o" stated its a clear bra type protective layer that protects that part of the car as it tends to get nicked.

I removed mine after it started to turn yellow. You can use a heat gun to remove it b/c you don't need it. Just depends on you, if you feel at ease leaving it on, just clean it, if not remove it.

Well yea if you keep it there and hold it in one spot for a long time.

^^^^ Exactly

Keeping it on one spot will ruin your paint. Moving it back and forth to heat up the glue will not.

Mine ar e still on my car too. They do protect the car and paint, but if mine were dingy yellow, I'd remove them. I think they really don't do anything much more than being part of how the car is shipped right after production. Has anyone had the problem that when they did remove them 4 years later that the paint was brighter under them than the car to make a noticiable difference? Like you could tell that there was something there? That would be my only good reason to take them off...

Huh, something to ponder... :agrue:
