My First Car: 2000 Toyota Solara

Postby DougSolara » Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:43 pm

Hey guys,

Im 18 and just got my first car today. Went to the dealership expecting to test drive a 03 Ford Mustang and a 00 Toyota Solara.

Hard choice, as the mustang is really stylish and fast. Of course it was going to hit the bank a little harder than the Solara. But what teenager doesn't want a Mustang, right?

I test drove both twice (yep im obsessive) and spent a lot of time talking to my mom, who of course would not give me much input. Her philosophy is since its my money I need to make my own decision. Got a paper out and wrote down the pros and cons, and the solara got better results than the mustang, which I wouldn't have guessed since I was doing the scoring.

The insurance is a lot cheaper as well (im a poor teenager on a budget ) so that was good. Haggled the heck out of the dealer and almost walked out until he agreed on one of my prices including tax/title/registration.

Never would have thought it, but buying a car is REALLY stressful. To see soo much money I worked for disappear in an instant is scary.

So they took it in the back, cleaned it up, filled the tank up for me, and drove it up. WOW, it looked spotless! A lot more roomier too (im kinda tall) which rocked as well.

Hard decision but I think I made the right choice, which my mom "suprisingly" mentioned later in the night.

But yeah, its a really clean car. Smooth ride, new tires, cassette deck (good for my iPod), and lots of room. I throw my backpack/laptop/briefcase/suit in my moms car all the time so I guess I needed the extra room afterall. Its like a mobile office.

Enough of my rambling, heres the specs.

2000 Toyota Solara SE (V6)
Alloy wheels (the ones with the S, or do they all have that?)
Power Seats
Everything else I assume is standard.

Well yep, just ran into this site and figured I'd join. See ya

Hey Bro,

Welcome, and congrats on your new ride; I'm sure you will enjoy it! :-D I think many of us on here woulda taken the Solara over the Mustang as well :-P But yeah, great choice!

What color did ya wind up with, and how many miles? Auto or Manual? Make sure you post some pics when you get the chance!

Take care, and enjoy your ride!

-James

PS--> Your wheels are Enkei; they're not factory, but they are offered by Toyota dealers as upgrades.

Thanks man

Oh yeah she's white.
Automatic
91,822 miles

I'm hoping it will last a good while, I was kinda concerned about the mileage but most people said its fine for a Toyota.

Im planning on taking real good care of her, i need her to last until I can afford another car 8). So far I really like driving it, way more comfortable than that mustang.

Ah, cool. Thought those rims were kinda neat, I was jokingly telling my friends they were custom since my last name starts with an S.

i wouldnt even BEGIN to be concerned about the mileage until 200K... unless you just give it hell all the time... and even then its quite possible that you will never have a problem

The soalra has been my 2nd and 3rd car, and a camry was my first, so I gues sI'v enever strayed far. It is hard buying a car, but hopefully it's a decision you love and you won't ever regret it.

Welcome, and let's see a few pictures.

Hey welcome to the Solara family. You sure don't sound like a teenager to me ... you'll hear a lot of people say these cars are for old people, take that as a compliment because as people get old, they get wiser (well most of the time, not me) ... and you made a wise decision already. Enjoy the ride!!
