HELP PLEASE!... GM Knock Sensor Install

Postby ruffrydasean » Sat Apr 01, 2006 6:49 pm

I've been hard at work all day, broke a few of these, rounded off a few of those, I cut the line between the Harness and the KS plug and connected them both along with the GM plug line and soldered them all back together then wrapped up with elec. tape. Should I have left the stock plug connected to the wires or just cut that off anf connect the GM plug with the Toyota harness?

I still have time to correct it as I F'd up the water/coolant transfer hose and trying to fit clamps over the new hose (also giving me trouble)...

It's 8:50 Right now and very much pitch black. I plan on driving this SOB tonight... :drinking: :evilbat: :agrue:

Nvm, eh... 11:33PM, and I got this beech cranked up and everything is lookin Kosher. CEL is gone... I'm just cleaning up tools and gonna take her for a spin soon. The Bolt I rounded off(or thought I rounded off) earlier was one of the main S/C bolts that connect it to the lower manifold

Take the old ones off. Why did you blow them in the first place?

Stock PSI just like everyone else + I didn't have Jim's Fuel Mod yet, Now I do have Jim's Fuel Mod and I got the GM knock sensors. I left the old Toyota plugs on there.. If they do cause trouble.. Or i blow the GM knock sensors.. then I'll take them off. Seems like the Dynamic Tensioner is rattling a lot more lately... I'll have to take that off and tighten it up to the plate assembly soon

Did you replace the stock knock sensors or you had the GM ones drilled in?

Yea, I removed the stock knock sensors and installed the ATS "kit" with the adapters for the GM knock sensors to fit.

CEL came on today, weird though... not sure if it's for the knock sensors because the car still revs freely and boosts and stuff.. I need to take it to autozone to see what the code is.

I also need to rewire it back both sensors are separate again. I had them wired to get the knock signal from bank 2

His CEL is NOT from running the signal on one sensor, it is from something else. Hoepfully nothing serious. Where did you get the kit, I must have missed that thread.

Thanks in advance and good luck with the CEL.

So you still had to splice the old Knock sensor harness and just plugged that into the factory plugs?

ugh. I made it so each one was separate and it made it go into limp mode again... has wrapping them in dynomat worked for anyone? or similar material hopefully they're not blown and just being set off so I don't have to buy another set...

Didn't really have the money to get the GM set to begin with...
