White Smoke coming out of the Exhaust

For like 3 months I have been experiencing way too much white smoke coiming out of my exhhaust when the car is cold started but also when it's hot in the day time although a little it doesn't seem right either time.

I swithced to the K&N air filter 3 months ago, I think that it might have to do something with it?

What do you guys think?

I am concerned with a blown Catalytic Converter...

Dude! go to the dealer and let them check the engine! That happened to my car and it was oil sludge! They supposedly know about this problem with our cars. they practically rebuilt my engine for free as a one time deal otherwise it's a $3K job. take it to the dealer ASAP before it gets worse

constantly check your coolant level. if you do not lose any coolant, than it just too much condensation in your exhaust pipes.

Coolant Level seems to be fine.

Why would it be too much condensation?

Is this perchance your first winter with the car? Might be normal stuff, but let the dealer check when you go in next.
White smoke can be normal condensation, coolant, or oil. With oil it would send out a couple good puffs at start up then mellow out. Coolant would probably be constant regardless of the temp, and you can smell it. Condensation is all looks and should coincide with the temp. More in the cold, less when hot.

Bull's eye !! You are from which part of North America ? I mean...it's normal that in cold temp you see a lot of "white smoke"...if you are not accustom to cold weather then you can conclude that there is a problem...if you are accustom to cold weather and you really find that there is way too much "white smoke" go check it aat the dealer.

The thing is that most cars I see like outside work do not have this issue at all, maybe a little but that's it.

I am from South California and the temp is the the low 50's when it mostly does it.

low 50's is mild enough...you should not see a lot of "white smoke". It Should happens around 32...
about the K&N filter...it should fit perfectly in the box and there is no problem there...if you rettach everything well after...

I don't know what it can be else then that.

The box is well fastened.

So no chance that I could have put it there backwards or it doesn't matter which way it goes?

I will be checking with the dealer because it's just way too much and like i said most cars around don't do the same.

if it only happen when you start up the car, i do not think there is any problem.

if it happens when you step on the gas, than you might have blown head gasket.

it is normal at CA in cold weather

ill clear this up for you..

what it is: valve guide seals

why: they are starting to go bad.. what happens is when you turn off yoru car there is still oil in that general area.. when the seals go bad just a bit gets by and into the combustion chamber.. now you said it was white right??? WRONG look closely you will see a hint of blue... thats oil burning off... more than likely this is less than a pea size.. remember a little oil burns a long way..

if you hate this you can tear it apart and replace them and waste money.. or you can do like i did and just live with it as it does no harm...

oil burns blue. too rich runs black. white is evaporation of h2O. would have to be pretty severe head gasket leak to blow excessive white smoke. do you drive mostly short trips? could be evaporation of moisture in exhaust system that evaporates only when temp gets above certain point. does this condition go away after 30-40min of constant driving? as Turbosolara said, if head gasket, you will see coolant level dropping and will find your oil to be a kinda like chocolate milk.

I forgot to mention it does it at cold startup severe.. and light when it's hot.

But goes away after like 5 minutes of driving or when the temperature needle raises half-way.

I would incline towards condensation but why is it so much?

I still haven't taken the car to the dealer but i am getting tired of this.

well if ur in LA like me the temp has gone way down lately
so if i read correctly u said it goes away after the car warms up, to halfway between cold and hot it should be fine....jst the cold weather lately here making it more severe
