I found this posting on another thread by Jim@foreignaffairs

jim@foreignaffairs wrote:For some time I was having a lot of problems with the spark plugs in the SuperSolara. I switched to Denso Iridium plugs, but 3 of the 6 failed one by one. They didn't have more that a couple thousand miles on them before the first one went, and when the second one stopped sparking I began looking for a better alternative. Luckily each of the failed ones were easy to get to without the removal of the S/C: 2-4-5. Well I found what I believe is the better alternative. These plugs are used in the late model BMW "M" cars. They are an NGK Platinum plug with 4 cathodes (sometimes refered to incorrectly as ground electrodes). Anyway, I have had them in for quite some time now with no failure and they feel at least as good power-wise as a new set of Denso Iridiums. Part number is: BKR6EQUP (Stock number 3199). You might want to give them a try. Because they have multple cathodes, they also solve the question of using a multiple cathode platinum plug as recommended by Toyota.

Jim

I also found the NGKs were cheaper than the Denso Iridiums.
Hope that helps.

thats interesting, Anyone else have experience with the NGKs jim used? I'm about to supercharge in a month or so, it would be nice to know for sure what to get. If the ngks are fine I'll go with them, much cheaper.

Spark Plugs

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Wed Mar 29, 2006 2:15 pm

The SuperSolara continues to run great with the NGK's. Much better than the Iridiums. They might not sound as sexy as an Iridium, but they work a lot better and that's all that matters to me.

Nitrous

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Thu Mar 30, 2006 12:55 pm

The NGK's will work better with Nitrous than the ND Iridium.

probably like $150 just to remove the supercharger in order to change the plugs. actual changing of the plugs shouldn't cost much.
