help with gauges

maybe some of you with more experience dealing with companies could help me with this. im not sure if ZPI is going to install gauges in my car with the stage 1 kit. they recommend the use of a boost, wideband, and EGT gauge. i would think that because they are using my car theyd go ahead and install these for their benefit as well as mine. what has experience or knowledge told u guys about this? im just wondering if i should look at finding some gauges. btw, i have emailed the guys doing the work and havnet gotten a response. thanks for all your help

autometer makes some nice gauges. i have some u can check em out at autometer.com there the ultra lite. but if ur boosted ur deff need a boost and a/f ratio gauge.

make sure you get a real a/f guage. I've seen so many of the "lean-stoich-rich" ones that are completely meaningless. They give you no measurement, no baseline, no incrementation, just a little light that bounces around.

There are plenty of companies that make guages, it all depends on what you're willing to spend and the style you're after. My boost guage is coming from Megan Racing, but HKS makes them as well as just about every other major aftermarket manufacturer

For Turbo you should get a Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure. . . I don't think anyone has had successful installs on the Oil Pressure so scratch that. . . WBO2 is only for tuning. . . Unless you are going to tune yourself I don't really see a real reason to spend 400+ on one gauge unless your really rich and has too much money

Follow up question: if you have the SAFC (or whatever it's called) do you still need the A/F gauge? or are they completely unrelated?

A/F gauge is good to have so you can monitor your ratio. (Otherwise your running blind and can be runing your car dangerously lean and not know it) = blown motor.
Useless if your going to hook it up to a narrow band o2 sensor. You can utilize a wideband o2 sensor and hook up the a/f gauge to it to get more accurate representation of what is going on. Wideband is not just for tuning although that is it's primary reason for existance it can function for many things! I have Inovative Motorsports LC-1 kit on my tercel and it's hooked up and calibrated with my autometer a/f gauge.

If your tuner did his job you wont have to worry about it as much. ( I Don't trust anyone around here). It's always good to be safe and monitor the right way.

They are not meaningless unless hooked up to a wideband and you know the a/f range for your gauge. i.e. The AutoMeter AF gauge has 20 LED indicators 4 Red (Lean Range), 10 Yellow (Stoichiometric Range), & 6 Green (Rich Range). The Ideal "Perfect Combustion" A/F ratio for unleaded gas is 14.7:1 That puts the yellow LED marker somewhere in the middle of it's set of 10 LEDs.

If hooked up correctly to a wideband you can know how to interpret the gauge for it's true intensions. To eliminate the guesswork you can just get one that actually reads out the numbers and not LEDs. The one I mentioned in the link above has the numbers. I would have got that if I did not already have an LED style AF gauge.
