So ya, I drilled some holes, made some custom fabrications, and fit a 12" CCFL in there pretty easily. However, no matter what I do, 1 CCFL isn't enough to light the whole thing, just the top. So what I plan on doing is getting a 6" for behind the underside of the tach and the speedo, and then a 3" i'm gonna drop in vertically between the gas and thermo gauges. Always a work in progress.......

CCFL is the acronym for Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting.

I have tried using a flexible reflector shield from a blacklight neon and it looked the same, plus it was an absolute pain in the donkey'sass to get it in there. The CCFL radiates light 360 degrees anyways.

so now i'm thinking of using reflective cutouts to cover as much area behind the gauges as well. I've figured out what all I'm gonna be needing to complete it. I need a 6" white ccfl and a pair of 3" white ccfl's. Gonna need 1 for the thermo, one for the gas, and the 6" for the lower part of the speedo and tach. I was up until 4am working on this too :drinking:

Finally you got some pictures up of that thing. I was even thinking of how the ElWire would look if you did it right. I didn't even think of it until now.

The good thing is your cluster works. I gave up and just tore mine up.

Good luck with the rest of the project.

Dude, EL wire should work good too. At least you can run a ton of that everywhere behind the gauges too. That's a good idea man.

Update!!!!!!!!!
Not finished yet, but here it is with the 12" white ccfl, and also a 4" ccfl, LED red turn signal indicators, and of course, the UV ccfl. It's mounted at a perfect level that the steering wheel blocks my eyes from direct view of the ccfl.

I have broken 2 of the 4" cathodes trying to extract the cathode out of the tube. It's not easy as it is actually glued in the tube with like rubber cement kinda substance. So after trying to open the tube with a knife, resulting the 2 broken ones, the third one was a success using a soldering iron to melt/cut thru the plastic. Tough process, but that's what I gotta do to get the results I want.
