Hi all,

I'm a new member in this forum with 06 solara. Hopefully this car will hold up good sveral years down the road :)

I'm just wandering whether anyone in here has interior ratlle noises (mine comes from the dashboard near speedometer area abd rear tray panel and plastic panel that covers the speakers). I have 1800miles on it and I don't know how I should live with these noises in my brand new car :(

Keep searching the forum and take it in to the dealer. If they can hear it, they'll try to fix it. (Not 100% but they usually give it an effort)

You're not a ragtop are you?

The rear deck problem is pretty common. I know someone posted about it before, do a search. Depends on you (how hard you push) and on your dealer (if they choose to care or not) if they will look at it and try and fix the rattles.

Welcome and good luck.

The front dash isn't as common, but I believe there may be a couple other people with that issue in the forums. The rear deck problem, however, is pretty common (as Mike mentioned). Usually the rear deck isn't that bad unless your have your music up (any bass from the speakers at all makes it rattle)... but if you ever put a subwoofer in it will be flat out atrocious... A few people have resolved (or partially resolved) this using zip ties to hold it down tighter... A couple people have gone back to the dealer, and the dealer added additional insulation (which helped a lot).

Do a search for rattles in the Gen 2 forum and you should find a few things.

Good luck, and welcome aboard!

I've got the front dash rattle, it comes from the top of the dash and when I push forward on the the edge right behind the steering wheel it stops. But I'd have to hold it there for it to stay quiet which is pretty hard to do while driving all day. I was going to jam something under the defrosting vent and see if that helped.

The rear dash rattle is pretty well documented here.

I also have a driver's side door rattle coming from the piece where the window buttons are. It's because I open the door with my elbow all the time and it's loose now. When I stuck a quarter in between the soft plastic of the door and the hard plastic of the window controls, it stopped. Gangster I know...

And finally, the moonroof rattle, when I put my hand up there and wiglle the wind deflector which pops up when totally open, it stops.

The best trick I have for all of this is my IPOD, on full blast.

i have 04 with 44000 kms and i drive it pretty hard. had the rear tray rattles . there is a tsb on the rear rattles. i would have thought the 06 would have had these solved. i noticed if you have anything at all in the inside door handes, ie. a pen, a pack if gum, candy, etc it will definately rattle when you have the radio volume up. i put the trd exhaust on and since i cannot hear very small rattles. the solara is a very quiet car which allows you to hear every little thing. i have the trd springs as well and even thought the ride is firmer, there does not seem to be any build quality deterioration or looseness felt. i did have the common intermediate shaft replaced due to slight tapping feeling in steering wheel.

Front dash rattle..my car is kinda rattling now but that was after the headunit installation. As for my rear tray rattle, there was a decent amount even before i had the subs in the back, but Dynamat fixed it.

I also have the dash rattle. I can hear it when my stereo is low on the volume. I wonder where exactly it is coming from. I gotta busy some more edead for the rear deck, I ran out before I could really put some back there.

I've got an 06 convertible and a do have a minor rattle which sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the speedo. I"ve yet to find the cause. When the radio is on, I don't hear it. And it does not rattle all the time. I do wish I could figure out how to remove the speedo unit so, I could look behind it. At first I thought the noise was coming out of the steering column cover, but that does not seem to be the case. As for other rattles, there are not any. The car is very quiet for a convertible. I'm very pleased with the car so far.

This is the quietest car I've ever owned, that's the only reason I can hear stuff like that. When I drive people around at lunch from work, they've made comments about how quiet the car is, probably at a sacrifice of MPG from the sound insulation and good quality glass.

The front rattle may be coming from the plastic piece of trim on the exterior below the windshield wipers. You need to remove the wipers, then remove the trim, and place felt over the plastic tabs. Have to be careful though as the tabs are VERY fragile, and great care is needed especially when reinstalling the piece of trim. I had a horrendous rattle for a couple of years and thanks to a post on this forum, I found the trim piece to be the problem (it was tapping against the windshield). Now I need to find the source of the other rattles...
Moved on to better things...

I had a front dash rattle since first time i got the car.
as it been said, our car is very quiet, and probably that's why we can hear a such a small rattle..

i took my car to the dealer 5, 6 times before it finally resolved.
it was from the front speaker cover (even tho i don't have any speaker down there), and i think they just stuffed as much insulation as possible under the cover.
now the cover is lifted a little compare to the other side, but least it stop rattling and after that, i haven't heard any rattle from that area.
it took me more than once to take it to the dealer, but they gave me a rental car.

but now i need to find the source of rattle from the rear panel especially when my sub hit base..
for the temporary solution, i turn volume for couple more notches, and it solve the problem :drinking:

I took my car to the dealer to get the rattles fixed but they said that they cannot fix the noise that is coming from the front (near drivers side vent and speedo cover) since they are put together by plastic pin. For rear deck rattle, they are ordering new deck panel for me.
Anyone in here has ever take the vent panel (drivers side) off ? I think I might have to take it out myself and see what I can do from there..
