racing seats

Postby krook » Tue Mar 07, 2006 2:08 pm

i'm gonna get a set of racing seats but i don't want anything overkill. i was lookin' at some Sparco Milanos, but IMO they're usually only seen in "drift vehicles". plus, they're damn expensive. (but i'm still considering them)

another brand i was looking at was the Tenzo Rally-style seats. i think these are okay, but a little ....well, "cheapy". anyone have these?? i need some feedback.

i'm not really interested in the Recaro seats, though i know they're the only ones with brackets for our car. what do you guys think?

just get a high class brand like sparco or recaro or veilside etc... none of that tenzo stuff or pep boyz stuff lol (i hope it wasn't necessary to point out something like that, but you guys make me wonder sometimes)

as far as the style and features, to each his own

I've heard of some people regretting getting non-reclinable seats. I myself could probably handle having a nice non-reclinable seat and not regret it

Buddy Club makes really nice seats.

My friend has one in his 240 and I had to drive in it for 8 hours (total, not all at once) and it didn't kill me at all.

Race Seat

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Tue Mar 07, 2006 6:59 pm

All my cars have always had great seats, usually Recaro. But I wanted something just like the stock seat in my SuperSolara, but with a lot better side support and still matching leather upholstery, electric adjustments, etc. So during the holidays I pulled the driver's seat out and had it reupholstered with higher side-bolsters but in the same leather. It looks stock but feels much better, especially in the corners. It really holds me in and has made cornering a lot better cause I am held in tight. By comparing it to the passenger seat, the sides look higher just like a Recaro but it looks like it belongs, not like an add-on. And it costs a lot less that an electric Recaro in matching leather! And blasting around corners has become a lot more fun.

I bought some used Recaro's out of an Alfa Romeo and had them reupholstered in OEM cloth material from Toyota sources. They look great and you almost can't tell that they aren't stock until you really start looking. They hold me in so nice and comfortable. They are not electric but are fully adjustable. My total cost for everything was $800. I also bought a seat belt locking mechanism from C-G Lock that further holds your butt in the seat and no problem with cornering at a very high rate of speed.

^^^^ Those look sweet.

I would stick with a trusted brand on racing seats. The cheap ones won't do anything for you in both safety and comfort categories.
