Idle rpm

Idle rpm

Postby ehshehsh » Sat Feb 18, 2006 11:27 pm

When I start engine on, it has rpm about 1500. Then it goes down to 800~900 after like 3 to 4 minutes.

If I start driving right away, engine rpm goes down to 900 anyway...

rpm is 1500 only if engine starts first time a day. It's round 1000 when I start enigine on if I used a car in 3 to 4 hours.

For me, solara seems to take more time to reach normal rpm from first starting..

Do you guys wait for like 3 to 4 minutes til rpm get low or start drving right away when you first drive your car a day?

p.s mine is v6 se sports.

Nope. Give it 30 seconds at least to get the oil flowing but anything more than that is a waste. Some think more harm than good.

The fastest way to warm up an engine is to put a load on it. Just give it a couple seconds to move the oil around for lubrication.

With no load and less airflow, water is collecting in the exhaust. Your tranny is not being warmed up evenly and then being tossed into service. Not my args... just stuff I've read. Personnaly, I doubt either method will cause notable diff in life span.
