I leave it on Auto the whole time.

Your DRL's are not your low beams; they're your high beams... unless you got HID's for your highs too, they won't be affected.

I do almost the same thing as cklinh (auto the whole time) but....

I park in a deck at night, so when I go to work in the morning, the deck is still dark and the HIDs come on for like 2 minutes till i pull out. I have started turning them off when I park at night just to keep them from from turning on and off all the time, which is worse then just having them on for extended periods.
